    Cleaning up wood stove

Perfect. If we can clean it up it will save us $800. We even got some brand new triple wall pipe with it. We just need to purchase a tile platform to set it on.

    Cleaning up wood stove

We just bought a house today and it used to have a wood stove in it. We plan to put one back in it. The old one needs new door glass and a good external cleaning. Can door glass be reinstalled? And can the outside be painted with a high heat enamel?

    Backdraft Problems

I got it to take off this morning, I tried burning a newspaper in the clean out door, then lighting the pile if paper, cardboard and small sticks in the back of the firebox. It took off in a hurry.

    Backdraft Problems

Our draft fan only shuts off if the house reaches 73. Which is extremely rare because it's 2000 square feet, ranch style with little insulation and poor windows. As far as the chimney is concerned the only part that isn't straight is the pipe that runs on an angle into the thimble to the block...

    Backdraft Problems

Right. It was odd this time because it started to back draft during a burn cycle. It was plenty hot too. I let it go back out for the night if it's clear weather I'll run the sweep down the chimney just to be sure.

    Backdraft Problems

Is it a poor idea to try and light a wad of newspaper in the clean out door of our masonary chimney? It's been two days since we've had a fire, it warmed up here about 80° over the course of five hours and is now raining.

Thank you! I was wondering the same thing.

    Backdraft Problems

The wood is dry. We never cut live trees, three months worth is stored inside at a time. The furnace is in the basement of our house. The fan does only has a high limiter so it shuts down when the set ambient temperature is reached. I had to start the fire up again today because it was warm...

    Backdraft Problems

I think it was listed as a wood/coal furnace. I tried running it with no fan and it burned very poorly.

    Backdraft Problems

No smoke at the end. Just when you're trying to get it to reignite. When the fan turns off it's because the thermostat tells it to. It will burn without the fan but not well.

    Backdraft Problems

I didn't think of starting in the clean out. This furnace came with the draft fan. I got it going this morning and it hasn't smoked since. It mainly seems to be when the fire is out or just embers and the air outside is heavy.

    Backdraft Problems

It could be. I'll try toning it down.

    Backdraft Problems

I got a fire going quickly with some small dry stuff and smoke still comes out the hole where the sliding door up top is. Ash pan door is open, draft fan is running and I have a window nearby open. I also swept the chimney again today just to be sure.

    Backdraft Problems

Ok. We have a valve type deal on the ash pan door. Normally open it full bore but may have to try just opening the whole door. The draft fan is above that then a slide controls the flow to the chimney. We also have a manual damper in the stove pipe.

    Backdraft Problems

I burn it pretty hot. I've seen what cool fires do to chimneys. We use newspaper and cardboard to start. I've got some smaller stuff but it's a bit damp still from rain. Going to split some Ash this weekend so I'll make some small pieces. Someone suggested that there may be a crack in the fire...

    Backdraft Problems

I clean the chimney and pipe at the least once a month. Generally only get a handful out of either part. I cleaned the furnace out thoroughly and replaced all fire bricks before we started it in October. Tomorrow I'm going to go on the roof and check the 10-2 rule. I just think it odd that it...

    Backdraft Problems

Sorry I forgot to mention I just cleaned the pipe and chimney. Draft fan is running. Generally acts up when you try to relight it or if it burns down. It is difficult to get the wood lit. Even putting a ball of paper in doesn't seem to help.

    Backdraft Problems

Last fall we bought a new Ashley/US Stove forced air wood furnace. Ran beautifully. No issues at all. This year we ran it and it was fine but since the weather's been cooling more it's having issues with what I'd say is backdraft or negative pressure. Generally the night before a rain or snow...

    Yardmax splitter

Right. I did look while I was in town yesterday. It appears that there's a lighter duty model and another line that's heavier. It could have just been the different color pain but the black ones look a little better built.

    Yardmax splitter

Right. I cut mostly ash. Pretty well dried by the time the saw gets to it. Too much of those trees are down to even get through.
