    Aftermarket parts strike again

Part of the problem with all this crap being bought is that it is so easy to sort the eBay results Price + Shipping lowest first. They don't have customer review as a sort option like Amazon does. But even reviews can be faked pretty easily.

Garage sale rescue: MS260 bogging down

Check the air filter. Some have built in chokes and they may not seal or may not stay open correctly. The choke flapper may be closing when there is enough air flow to overcome the spring tension.....

When you fill with ethanol free your getting some ethanol.

If your fuel pump doesn't have separate hoses for all the grades of fuel, you are getting some fuel of the grade the prior users selected. Essentially you pump the fuel left in the hose from the prior user. If that was E85, you may be your one gallon can may end up with 30% ethanol See this video

Trying to like my new "to me" Husqvarna 262XP

bicycle handlebar wrap may work well. It shouldn't get to stinking as quickly.

    346xp problem

Could be the shaft under the clutch is worn to the point that putting the chain break on clamps the clutch and the clutch cocks sideways and clamps the shaft and you snub out the engine. I have that in my MS261. You may be lucky and it is the bearing between shaft and clutch, which is easy...

    Stihl 025 rebuild

If you want to fix that saw, I suggest setting up an email notification on Craigslist to tell you when an 021, 023 or 025 is listed. They are popular saws. Often sell on Craigslist cheap, since many homeowners can't or will not fix something. But want to sell it for a few $ instead of...

husky cuts 2-3" sideways, then binds

I agree with TRTermite. Sounds like the bar isn't sitting right due to a stud being pulled out some and so one side of the chain is rubbing on the plate and wearing off the edge/tip after several cuts. Hence one side of chain is dull and the other still sharp. The bar studs have a flat collar...

What to do about persistent poachers?

Hang any cameras high enough the poacher can't just steal it. Tracks in fresh snow is often enough to get the warden to knock on a door. Report your missing dog. That should get the Sheriff to know on the door of the neighbor. One other possibility is to send a registered letter to the...

Stihl 023 Bogs In Large Oak - Go Narrow Kerf?

I believe you can put a 025 piston and cylinder on an 023 for a few more ccs. But I have an 025 with a 16" bar and it requires patience when cutting large diameter hard wood. So you really either need more patience or substantially more ccs.

    026 control lever slop

I have never done it. But first thought is Metal weld the hole closed. Drill out a new hole. OR JB Weld the hold closed. Drill.

Will a chainsaw run without the Exhaust/Muffler?

I am new to fixing saws. So take this with a grain of salt. A no tool test of compression is to hold the saw by the starter rope and see how long it takes for the rope to pull out while the saw lowers to the floor. It should either not lower or is should lower over many seconds. If it lowers...

    Help. Sthil 025

There is a small hole plugged with a set screw beside the muffler. If you loos the set screw, oil doesn't make it to the bar.

Upper Michigan (UP) two saw plan

You may want to start by finding the best dealer in your area. One who has knowledgeable repair techs. Unless you plan on wrenching on your own saws you will want a dealer how knows how to fix your saw and not just tell you its time for a new one.

    A bit of a dealer/mechanic rant.

You realize we are getting what we are asking for from a dealer. = Cheapest price To the dealer that means - cheapest employee possible meaning - untrained - unmotivated - probably no common sense - lowest investment meaning - no paid training of the employee - no training by...

    Crankshaft replace?

Try the chain break. My MS261 has the same problem. If you put on the chain break it causes the clutch to pinch the shaft and snub out the saw.

Is this a 346 OE or NE? Cat version or non-cat?

My 346 had a green cap. It leaked. It now has a gray cap, so cap color is only going to suggest what the saw it. Serial Number should be absolute.

    To clean chainsaw chain

Lye is used to strip the old coating on cast iron skillets. It removed the polymerized vegetable oil or lard. I expect that baked on bar oil would be very similar. It is said you can put the skillet in the lye and leave it in there for months with no damage. But that it should only take a...
