    Considering a 261 C-M or a 362 C-M, QC my logic

2 Saw plan all the way! You won't be disappointed with the 261 C-M, it great on the smaller stuff, will cope in larger logs albeit not as fast. I am running a 16" on mine, and it has never let me down, will cut whatever I sink it into. I keep the 461 for the bigger stuff...

    The Stihl MS661 C-M recall

WOW, I was thinking about trading my 461 in for a 661, now am a little hesitant, hmm. Would be a shame to trade in a very reliable machine and possibly receive a unit that has issues. I would have thought any issues would be addressed by now in 2018???

Sharpening, finally at long long last

Guys, The Stihl 2 in 1 is an awesome tool, no doubt about it. If you have many chains of varying lengths, the bench grinder is fantastic. Really cuts down sharpening time. The following is only my opinion on using the bench style grinder: PROS Perfect angles every time Sharpen 4 chains in...

Sharpening, finally at long long last

Love the Stihl 2 in 1 file, they are a great tool, especially in the field. I purchased the Dremel sharpener, and found this totally useless, very difficult to operate and don't waste your money. I still prefer to use my bench top sharpener, very quick however only draw back is that it does...

Echo Power Blend Oil Smells Like Plastic?

Love the smell of burning plastic in the morning! Stihl HP Ultra definitely smells like burning plastic. Thought I was going nuts when first using it. My mates hate the smell, I don't mind it, works well for me.

    Breathing Life into Dry Chains

Thanks guys. I can confirm that the damn oiler is working fine :crazy2:, other chains are OK. Only a couple that are dry, by dry I mean dry and slightly rusty. Not ceased. I will try some of your suggestions, cheers!

Victorian Firewood Collection - Spring Season 2018

WOW, 36" what are you running that on? Agree with leaving the mess behind, also makes good habitat for the little critters in the bush!

Victorian Firewood Collection - Spring Season 2018

OK, let's see how the scouting goes. How big is the wood generally? I was thinking of slabbing then splitting at home, the site does state you need to split it there and neatly stack. Not sure how strictly this is policed?

Victorian Firewood Collection - Spring Season 2018

Hi Rio95, I am going to head out hopefully this weekend, will take the gear and trailer with me, it will be more of a scout out. May need to go back and grab the SUV, however the thing drinks like I do! :givebeer: Will also take the wheel barrow, as am tipping I will need to cart wood back...

    Breathing Life into Dry Chains

Thanks for all of your replies, all good suggestions. Oakie, great idea regarding zip lock bags. Oiler is working fine as other chains do not have an issue, only a couple of chains are affected. I will send through some pics. Links are also fine and working freely definitely not frozen/ceased.

    Breathing Life into Dry Chains

Hi All, Just wanted to know what you guys do with dry chains. I have been soaking mine in bar oil, then hanging them to let the oil drip off. I am not sure if it the right thing to do, however just wanted your opinions/guidance. I love they way new chains feel out of the box, slightly oily...

Victorian Firewood Collection - Spring Season 2018

G'day All, Apologies if this post is in the wrong place, however just wondering if anyone has gone out scouting firewood in Victoria? The season opened up over the weekend, and I am keen to find out if there are accessible 2WD sections in the Poweltown/Guilderoy collection areas? I have never...

    Just got a new MS461.

Hi JustinSL, Congrats on your new saw! As people have mentioned, great saw and very capable out of the box. I am running a 25" bar on mine, full chisel/square ground chain (no mods totally stock), in Aussie hardwoods. Has never missed a beat. Very fast and loves to rev hard! I had my...

Stihl MS 661 C-M guide bar question

Hi Mike, Did you end up picking up the 661? What type of Eucalypts, some pics would be great if you had them. Drought is an issue for NSW and parts of QLD, really feel for them! Rain seems to be falling in the wrong places. We are ok so far in VIC. Seems it is going to be a terrible fire...

    G'Day from Cockatoo Australia!

Hi guys, and thank you for the warm welcome, it is great to be here! Definitely a Stihl man through and through, Brad you were close, 461 and 261-CM. Garden Tractor is a Husky, good little beast, however wish that Stihl made them! It's strange, I kinda feel like I am cheating on Stihl by...

    Eucalyptus Tree Identification Help

Hi Guys. This looks like beautiful Jarrah to me, bark is a giveaway. These are endemic to the South West corner of Western Australia. I spent many years in Perth where Jarrah is sought after for it's beautiful pink wood. Have been on many firewood expeditions collecting Jarrah. Nice sweet...
