36” American Elm is it any good for planks, tables

My saw with 20inch max length bar won’t quite do the job and will probably burn out long before hitting the heartwood. Hoping someone nearby has a portable mill or chainsaw mill

36” American Elm is it any good for planks, tables

We have a 36’ diameter America Elm that died last fall and was cut down. It is laying in backyard and is about 30 ft long, There are also some large limbs available to be cut. I would like a mantle piece or to sell the wood instead of having it picked up by tree company. The problem it is behind...

    Treetops for firewood Nw Michigan

After longtime absence from this site mainly for health reasons I am back, sort of. Our family will be having some trees thinned next spring for lumber from our property and will probably have too many tops for us to handle. If we could work out some deal with some people to take tops for...

Help ID THIS BUG Swarming in garage with 3.5 cords of firewood

I looked at images of emerald ash borer and they seem to have short antennae . our bugs have very long antennae and distinctive orange necks. Maybe a Tanbark borer? It looks like it comes in on firewood and we just have to let it run its' course. Hope it is a very very cold winter so we can the...

Help ID THIS BUG Swarming in garage with 3.5 cords of firewood

Thanks for the replies and help, here are a couple of better images. The bug zapper is doing great although the garage reeks of dead burnt bugs. We placed a garbage can beneath the zapper to catch debris and any bugs still crawling. We put soapy water in the bottom to kill them off. Anybody...

Help ID THIS BUG Swarming in garage with 3.5 cords of firewood

We have had our fireplace for nearly 8 years now and have always stored our seasoned 3.5 cords of firewood in attached 20'x40' garage for easy access during winter. We usually stack the wood in fall for that winter burn. With my back condition I have had to purchase wood and scrounge wood from...

    Shorted delivery

The first year we had fireplace we also did not have enough wood cut and split from the property so we had to buy some. A store nearby our house (now out of business) had a huge pile of firewood to sell so we ordered several 4 face cords. When stacked it was very short of firewood. WE went to...

Dept of Agriculture weights and measures called today, they are checking within dept if my case will be investigated further since it involves face cords not cords. Face cords are not regulated but he became more interested when I told him I spent $600 for $400 of actual wood delivered. Someone...

I could have taken measurements of the truck but with the wood tossed in haphazrd there would have been no point doing so. Unless the wood is stacked in neat and tight there I do NOT see tell how a seller can judge exactly how much wood is actually in the bed of a truck.

Look at the Sutter county firewood calculator above for stack dimensions. one pile is 52" high and 96" long, therefore only avg. 4" above the 4ft and 8ft long. The other 2 piles are avg. 60 inches high and 99 inches long in other words 1 ft above 4ft and 3" over 96" length. The other stack is...

I emailed him on Thursday before I wrote this thread. I got numerous responses from members regarding this thread but so far nothing from the owner of the business on email. If he was concerned about the situation he would have called by now. Prior to sale I wrote him an email he called me...

    Shorted delivery

Decades ago when we delivered wood with our small utility trailer 4'x8' inside dimensions and it held only 1 face cord weight wise also. We put the wood inside the trailer tightly packed but we always added a layer on top in case the buyer stacked it a bit tighter. I don't know how since we...

Not your fault, he has not even called back after I told him I was shorted nor has he answered my email. I'll give him a few days and then post his company on site as somebody to avoid.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 cords is one thing but 2/3 short is a RIPOFF and stealing.

It was some sort of high sided dump truck. He told me he could drive it into our garage with 10 foot walls and garage even has 10 high door, but it would not fit.
