How much wood do you burn?

How much wood do you burn?

I burn about 5 full cords in a Lopi Patriot. It's a smaller stove but seems to heat well. Not the only source of heat, but it is the primary as I only get 150 gallons of fuel oil delivered every other year. The house is just under 1400 square foot ranch, built In 1971 and is fairly well...

    Season by the numbers

Do those numbers include paying yourself? Are most/all of your sales dump by the cord residential?

My new cutting place for a bit

My neighbor saw a few pine logs in my wood pile and almost begged me not to burn it. He thought it was certain death for my family and I as soon as the log crested the stove door. That was 3 years ago:crazy2:

Countyline 25 ton or 30 ton

I have a 25T countryline and it's great. Starts first pull everytime (Kohler motor), sips fuel, and splits everything I have put through it. I have about 25 hrs of runtime on the unit. I'm sure the cycle time is slower than a larger unit and I can say I would appreciate the larger wedge

    The evils of burning wood

The author is a "pollution scientist" peddling a book. Makes sense now:crazy:

    The evils of burning wood

Whenever I see a study by a university doctor I try to find out who funded the study. That is what really determines the outcome

    The evils of burning wood

I agree. Alot of this could be due to being a good neighbor. It makes me wonder when the article spoke about how the pollution went up the most on weekends. A weekend burner in a city would be more likely to not have as good dry wood as someone depending on the wood for heat. I have not seen it...

    The evils of burning wood

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-6402031/amp/Wood-burning-stoves-emit-six-times-pollution-diesel-truck.html I keep coming across articles like this. The title of this thread is the first thing that came to mind after reading the article. Seems ridiculous to me that someone is...

    Firewood boxes for indoor storage

I made my folks a firewood box while I was in highschool. Its made of oak 1x3s spaced out with a low spot in the front. It's probably 3'x3'x2'. I bet I put 20 hrs in this thing. In the end it turned out so nice I don't think they ever put wood into it. They use it as toybox for the...

    Woohoo! I've Got 12" Wood!!!

The shorties are a little harder to stack on a pallet as well. I've had a couple tip overs. I mix in longer splits to hold it all together

    Best wood mixture

I believe it. The one I took down had 4 main trunks to it. 3 were pretty dead and dry. The 4th was so wet water came out of some of the splits while splitting.

    Best wood mixture

The elm was standing dead but I just cut and split it a week ago. I really need to get a moisture meter. Cotton wood burns fine for me, just a little fast. I'll burn just about anything. I get more calls than I can accept from people I know to come get free wood so it's all different species...

    Best wood mixture

I would like to get opinions on the best wood mixture. For example I burned alot of silver maple last year. It burned kinda quick but burns down to powder, not alot of coals and starts very easily. I am burning elm right now, it doesn't start as easily, burns longer and leaves almost too much...

    Woohoo! I've Got 12" Wood!!!

I do north south the first layer when loading and east west on the second. North south is more stable and doesn't allow wood to roll out of the front. It also doesn't build up Ash in front of the door that spills out when you open it. It is a pain however cutting wood so short. I have a Lopi...

    Counting Cash

I always make sure to count out cash and announce I'm doing it in front of my brother whenever we have dealings. Not because he's dishonest but because it erks him and it's become a running gag:laughing:

Hauling firewood on a landscape utility trailer

Yep. I took a large silver maple (one of the loads with the red truck) and it took about 4 loads. That's a ton of wood but yes, it'll fill up quick
