Thinking about starting a aborist business

Skip all the boring stuff and buy a knuckle boom with a grapplesaw.

Looking for chainsaw cut resistant gloves

Chainsaws are designed to have both hands on it while cutting. I think that gloves with any level of real chainsaw protection would be so thick you couldn't even handle a saw...

Tell us about things that annoy you on the job site

That's a good safety record, you should be proud. "I am almost obsessed with safety." Usually safety obsessed people are open to new ways of trying to keep people safe. You don't see how starting with brake on could prevent a greenhorn from getting hurt?

H He also rigged his truck to start while in gear because anyone who can't safely handle a vehicle that starts in motion should seriously reevaluate their ability to drive a vehicle.

Tell us about things that annoy you on the job site

No one's telling you you're wrong and no one's telling you what to do. Maybe you should add 'people who do things differently than me' to your original list.

Tell us about things that annoy you on the job site

I was explaining that I do make use of the brake at all times. Only time it comes off is to make a cut.

Tell us about things that annoy you on the job site

I'll admit, my post was a bit tongue in cheek in response to your pet peeves about chain brakes. But.... You shouldn't assume I'm useless because I do things differently than you, and in return I won't assume your a hack that has no insight into current safety protocols taught by all trainers...

When you pick up a chainsaw, start it, and the chain starts running because the previous user didn't apply the chain brake like they're supposed to and can't seem to be understand why it's a safety issue.

    Replacement Silky Belt Clip

I always broke these clips while climbing and couldn't find replacements other than buying a new saw with scabbard. My solution was switching to the velcro leg straps. I now prefer to wear handsaws on my leg while working and they don't break as easily.

    Help with rope choice ?

I don't know if that tenex is good for tying knots in. I'd look up samson 'stable braid' 5/8". Better for knots. The Bowline knot is your friend if you want to untie it.

    Help with rope choice ?

Rope placement in the tree is important. Are you able to tie the rope higher in the tree? Or will it be closer to the bottom? A 1/2" rope placed up in the tree can be safer than a 5/8" or 3/4" rope tied closer to the ground. Since your pulling with a tractor, buying a heavier rope won't hurt...

    Power Wheelbarrow

I have a gas powered track wheelbarrow. Not very refined machine, a little slow, but it's rated for 660lbs and will haul anything that fits in it uphill all day without complaining. These sell for $1999.00 new at the Canadian version of Harbor Freight. Got this one next to new for 1200...

    Sweeper to clean Ash Twigs

Could you sell it for half the price after the EAB is all cleaned up in your area? 500 would pay back pretty quick in man hours and crew morale.

    Sweeper to clean Ash Twigs

If the bmg rake is the right tools for the job, I don't see why a good welder/fabricator couldn't make it attach to the front or back of your compact tractor.

    whadja do today?

Today I signed some petitions to stop changes that would change Arboriculture in Ontario, Canada. Tree workers and Certified Arborist would no longer be able to prescribe or carry out tree work without the consent and supervision of a Ontario Professional Forrester. This change will make ISA...

Review the Weaver Denali Saddle, please

I considered buying one recently, but ended up buying a different one. There's a lot of mixed reviews on it. I didn't like no quick release on leg straps and it didn't seem to have much storage loops. Waist strap also looked like it was designed for someone skinnier than me.... As with all...

2003 ford f450 super duty chip truck - suspension/leaf springs? upgrade?

Have you ever weighed your truck empty and full to figure out if your overweight when full? Steel and wood boxes are pretty heavy. I gained about 400lbs payload ability when I switched from steel/wood to aluminum box on my F350. You can put as many leafs in as you want but it doesn't change...

    Fall Arrest Harness

Fall arrest harnesses will save you, then try kill you. Especially heavier people who can't be rescued immediately. The leg straps cut into your leg arteries and when the pressure is released, can be fatal. Look up Suspension Trauma. It's been some time since I've had to wear a fall arrest...
