What's the big deal with the big dogs?

Ok... I totally get that ...I've seen some saws like you've mentioned with the bars burned and rocked out chains. Which is why you don't loan out your women, rolling equipment and saws.

    Stihl 026 porting

I understand one guys numbers may not work for others, that guy isn't grinding for them so that's hard to say why they don't work. Setting up the timing wheel can be off a couple degrees from how that guy got his numbers. Also, if the ring isn't on the piston ... your exhaust time can be off...

What's the big deal with the big dogs?

Sawfun....There probably a good reason you're saying that... I hoping to maybe learns something I've not aware of. Could you explain why this is such a bad idea?

    Stihl 026 porting

We We'll I know that ported saw can run hotter and if a firewood cutter just run the heck out it... its going to get hot. You're burning more fuel to make that extra power, that saw going run leaner as it gets hot... just saying you might want to consider that unless you just don't care if the...

    Stihl 026 porting

Vesa keep in mind ported saw aren't for everyone, they burn more fuel, and they make more heat and need cooling down time to be reliable. Also, this the internet so don't believe everything you read. The porting number for a saw from a different displacement may not work on a small displacement...

    Stihl 026 porting

Hyway from what I hear aren't too bad, but again I've heard Meteor & Hyway have issues so not sure what to believe myself. I'm in process of rebuild on MS461 but on the fence on either a hyway or meteor piston, Pop up or not. I think I can save the OEM cylinder.

What's the big deal with the big dogs?

My understanding Stihl never offered a MS361R model. If you wanted R model back then the guys here in the PNW bought MS460, 461's. Stihl brought back the R model with the MS362. Anyone, with MS361 3/4 wrap handle bar built it, like I did! I have other larger saws with a 3/4 wrap bar but as I...

What's the big deal with the big dogs?

Boy... I wish I believe my upgrade was ~ $125 from the dealer. There were a few more parts than just the handlebars in an OEM Stihl 3/4 wrap handle bar kit. The kit has different AV mounts/spring, bigger chip guard, different PTO/oiler inside cover, the Handlebars, chain catch and (not sure if...

    Stihl 026 porting

Before any porting you need to know your timing numbers and what the compression squish is. I suggest if you have the original cylinder I would compare it to the present AM cylinder. Also, when you replaced the cylinder, did you tune your saw.

    Echo model CST-610EVL twin Cylinder

My buddy stopped by yesterday, I should have taken a picture of that echo it looked brand new. Said it runs like a top, it's a heavy saw but pretty cool bet it has torq in the cut. He had his new saw with him... just picked up all most new MS461 that had less then 1 run time on it.

    What brand outlast?

The loggers I've known pick saws that are light, best antivibration, fast, reliability and good service support in their area. My dad ran mac until they weren't available then switched to Stihl, Husky's or Sach. A lot of his saws he had ported and recertified. But his brand choice was the saw...

What the different between $400 Meteor cylinder and a $160 Meteor cylinder

I took my cylinder into a trusted saw shop and the owner agreed probable could clean up the cylinder, he's seen worst. I took some oil and 320 cloth and lightly touched it up just to see... looks better. This is OEM cylinder aren't they chrome? Thoughts is it worth buying a ball hone to save...

What the different between $400 Meteor cylinder and a $160 Meteor cylinder

I think a MS462 is ~$1250 now. I’d like to go OEM cylinder. I’d hate to port OEM cylinder and be wrong on what I think my numbers should be. Aftermarket little easier to swallow if I need to do another cylinder. but I thinks meteor or hyway cylinder kit would work. I like 102 to 105 degrees on...

What the different between $400 Meteor cylinder and a $160 Meteor cylinder

Ok verified my number, I’m off +1 degree to the positive from my original number. Not a lot of blowdown or compression stroke from what I thought it should have. The crank looks and feels ok, not center in cases thou. I don’t feel ridge in the cylinder wall on the intake side but sure doesn’t...

What the different between $400 Meteor cylinder and a $160 Meteor cylinder

I want to get my original timing numbers on the OEM cylinder before I pull it, I built a holder for a dial indicator so make sure my wheel is zero. I'm question my wheel setup because my numbers are a lot different than I thought they should be. My Exhaust is 100 degrees ATDC, transfer 119-120...
