Ms180 - Starter Kickback When Cold?

Ms180 - Starter Kickback When Cold?

It does run fine once started. I start saws on the ground. It might not be pre ignition kick back but it sure does feel like it. First pull is fine. Second or third pull it yanks the starter handle right out of my hand.

Ms180 - Starter Kickback When Cold?

Thanks all. I've removed flywheels from these small engines before. Zip off with impact, put nut back on, put on socket+extension, rap a tap tap while holding the saw up by the flywheel. Googling around, it looks like the flywheel has an integrated key. I'll dig into it this weekend.

Ms180 - Starter Kickback When Cold?

Is there a decent manual for this thing? I assume remove recoil, remove flywheel bolt with an impact. Normal or reverse thread?

Ms180 - Starter Kickback When Cold?

I have an MS180c that I bought from a homeowner who used it once, it scared him, he put it away for years. I rebuilt the carb or possibly replaced it with an OEM carb (this was 4-5 years ago), tuned it, sharpened the chain, it's been a great limbing/fallen branches saw for me. The only issue...

Am I the only one who prefers .043 over .050 on small saws?

I converted a couple of my smaller saws to .050, was pretty surprised how much I prefer .043 for limbing and small stuff. I know some of this is the grabbier stihl yellow chain over the safety chains, but even safety .050 vs .043.. A lot less grabby on the small stuff with the .043. I think I'm...

"Bad" saws that became "good" over time

It's really interesting to me how many so saws, when they first come out, are total junk according to internet folks. Then give them 15-20 years and all the sudden they're solid workhorse dependable saws worth buying. I noticed this a lot when rebuilding an MS290, reading older threads, at the...

    Drop starting?

My .02..... if you don’t have a wife and kids do whatever you want. If you have a family to support and are running unneeded risks, make sure that life and disability insurance is paid up. I saw a lot of both sides of the safety gear debate when I rode sport bikes, after seeing a guy we knew...

    What do I have here?

Looks like a Super XL. Really well regarded older saw. If the serial is intact post it up so we can date it

Thanks guys. Still looking for the clutch/chain cover. Surprisingly as mentioned earlier in the thread, most are cracked at the mounting holes

    Multi tool attachment interchangeability?

They are mostly the same shaft/attachment but sometimes (stihl) have different or weird release/lock systems. I have stihl stuff that I use on my Husqvarna powerhead with very easy/safe/slight modification. I know that Husqvarna, have a "pro" powerhead system that is not interchangeable with...

    Homelite Super EZ automatic

Ace, based on the serial your saw appears to have been built at the end of 1979. These are quite good saws, very well made, there were millions of them so parts are still widely available. Mine is a 1974, sat for at the very least 10 years. I cleaned up the plug, put some fuel in it and it fired...

Snagged a Homelite Super EZ Automatic

Okay so mucking around with dribbling fuel in, figured hell let's put some gas in it see what happens. Started right up, after 5-10 seconds working the throttle it idles and runs GREAT. I'm still going to rebuild that carb, replace all fuel lines and check intake boot, and it needs some tuning...

Snagged a Homelite Super EZ Automatic

Thanks, I pulled the plug (Denso T20M-U, wrong heat range apparently, will get a champion DJ6J or NGK 6421), cleaned it, dribbled some fuel down spark plug hole and it popped over immediately. What a crazy distinctive sound. I'm going to wait until the carb kit comes in to check the reeds but at...

Snagged a Homelite Super EZ Automatic

Here are some pics. There is a very slight mark on the piston at the exh port, but cylinder looks good and at 170-175psi it should be fine. However it doesn't start with a dribble of fuel mix in the carb. tried with/without compression release, still not even a burp. Using a spark tester it...

Wow, those look fantastic. I got mine (mostly) cleaned up, will post some pics tomorrow. Still need a clutch cover. By the way, did your S clutch have a flat plate/protector directly on it?
