First saw : Stihl 028 or husky 445?

Making progress. Uneven cutting is probably caused by a worn bar, check out the rails and flip it over. Could also be the cutters themselves. Maybe new a new chain is in order.

    Complete "repair" kits

If you are mechanically inclined, the kits are a very good deal. I was able to assemble the hutzl 660 in about 8hrs, maybe less I think these kits offer great value, for what you get, the parts them-selves might as well be free. The wait time, as opposed to grabbing one off the shelf is the...

First saw : Stihl 028 or husky 445?

The standard cold starting (priming) procedure for all stihl saw is as follows. Set choke to full, switch in lowest position. Pull starter rope with modest effort until you get ignition, the saw will pop, maybe run momentarily. Set switch to 'run' two positions up. Under ideal...

First saw : Stihl 028 or husky 445?

Not sure about the muffler. You need to remove the screws that hold it on. It's not a huge deal if you can't get that part. If it won't start after messing with the screws it may have flooded. Just give a few min, or if you got the adjustments way out of whack you can start over by setting the...

First saw : Stihl 028 or husky 445?

Diesel fuel is fine for a general purpose solvent/cleaner. Very likely to be be a carburetor adjustment issue, that being said you need to eliminate the obvious regular things. Particularly that the saw is breathing good. Be sure the air filter is clean, also the spark arresting screen in the...

    Top Handle Recommendations

Agreed. They seem to out-last every other top handle saw by a factor of five at least. If I build another Hutzl kit saw it will almost certainly be the 200t.

    Can I run a 28" bar on a MS361?

Hmm, the 361 will turn any chain around any bar that mounts up. I frequently run a 25" on mine, but I do that because I can reach things close to the ground without bending over. If your only cutting smaller stuff as you indicated is should be fine. The standard oiler will be maxed out for sure...

    Top Handle Recommendations

I have zero experience with echo saws. I will say that I really can't recommend the Stihl 192/3. They seem to disintegrate under what I consider normal use. (climbing/industrial) I have an 019t that's coming up on 20 years old and still runs like a champ. The 200t series is legendary for a...

First saw : Stihl 028 or husky 445?

Looks good. It does sound fine, should be a good runner. As far as the idle is concerned, you may try adjusting the idle screw, and or the low idle mix screw. Before doing too much of that, make sure the regular stuff is taken care of. Clean air-filter, clean fuel pick-up, good plug, fresh gas...

Toasted my clone ms660 on amsoil at 100:1

I should be clear that I don't nessisarly blame the amsoil. In addition to running at 100:1, I made a critical error of leaning out the saw too much. Even if possible I believe that running at 100:1 lowers the max safe RPM, and I think shortening the lifespan of the bearings. The...

First saw : Stihl 028 or husky 445?

I own several 028's the AV super being the most desireable version. I'm a Stihl guy, and I would go with the 028. If it's in decent shape I would even pick-up another one, esp the AV super. These saw are from an era of the highest quality manufacturing. They were very much hand assembled in...

Toasted my clone ms660 on amsoil at 100:1

It was saber, says 100:1 right on the bottle. I could be wrong but it seemed thin to me.

Yes, and I think the amsoil is relatively low viscosity stuff. Perhaps causing to run a touch rich in many applications. I'm going to stick with penzoil AC or Stihl HP. This is what I generally use and haven't had any issues at ~40:1.

I'm almost positive the saw failed to my own error/stupidity. I do think the chi-com saws probably are more likely to bomb at high RPM. However the bottom end seemed really dry when I popped the cylinder off.

Piston skirt shredded and cracked, also the transfer bent in and cracked. Pieces of the cage tried to get by.

I really /wanted/ it to work. I'm not sure why. I wanted to believe. After all it's 'tested and proven at 100:1' I figured I'd see for my self. My buddy thinks I broke it on purpose.

Agreed, foaming oil is bad news bears.
