    Makita 6401's...a steal

Here is your comparison and specs, they might be worth a try at that price. You know orange and white is right, but those really dont look so bad. Nice lines, balanced. I like their drills. http://www.makitafactoryoutlet.com/makita/products/DCS640120.asp

Time for a second / Alternate Saw - Stihl MS ???

+1 on the MS460. Have now run 8 tanks of fuel through my new 460. If money is not the issue, buy the 460. Its not too much. I stepped up from a 260pro. It now will be strictly a light duty limbing and campfire wood saw. This 460 is the first 70cc class saw I have owned and I can not...

    chain sharpening a chain ?

col56, Pittsburghs' pretty country, not too far from me. Used to work for a Pittburgh outfit, Guardian Protection Services. Was up there a 1/2 dozen times back in the 90's. I dont know if this helps but those $100.00 grinders from northern are alot of bang for the buck. What I did to...

    Which stack dries faster

+1 on the last pic, it will have the most air flow through it, try and avoid big square or round piles or stacks. In my experience the middle just does not get any air. I used to stack, its just too much any more, 40 cord/yr, so I have just long skinny piles(6-8' wide x however long x 6-8'...

    New MS460 Rescue saw/Pics

Good catch, Treeclimber Jul, Drew you should inquire about that D-handle. Its purpose is to facilitate easier starting by operators wearing large gloves such as yourselves. For your purposes it should be there. Nice addition to your dept, good luck with it.

Welcome col56, is amazing what we can find online. I not too far from Pa. in Md. just below York. You close by? I got one those chineese copies of the oregon grinder last yr from NorthernTool. $89.00, works great. If you sharpen alot of chain its well worth it. Those gizmos are for the...

    Log splitter on Ebay

And heres one more little tidbit. Back in Feb I got my old f250 stuck in the mud dropping off a load at the pile. A buddy tryed to pull me out with his chevy 4x4. Too much mud, no grip. So, what to do? No come-along handy, but the ol splitter sittin there starin at me. I says to myself...

    Log splitter on Ebay

I also forgot to mention the only issues I have with the thing. There are 2. The cheesy plastic supply hoses. The one to the valve cracked after about 20 cords, right at the valve. I just cut off the bad end and reattached. Will replace it shortly, not a huge deal. And the gas tank is...

    Log splitter on Ebay

Just my 2 cents worth. Last year I researched splitters long and hard and ended up with Northerntools' 37T with 4way wedge addon. All the 20-30T models I looked at were $1200-1500 range. Got this one for little over 2000 delivered. Well worth it IMO, this thing is a beast with a 5" cly...

    Ask and .........

OK OK I apologize to all. It was just a figure of speech.......lessness on my part. All here are certainly included in my thoughts. Should have said "restored my faith in people". I just run into so many ignorant, clueless, self serving sob's in my daily travels that it warps ones view...

    044 for $100

Thats just down right criminal. Who ever owned that saw should be strung up for abuse and neglect. Thats a shame, breaks my heart. Poor saw......someone go rescue that thing quick and give it a decent home where it will be taken care of properly.

Thanks, had to take a pic b4 it got dirty, and yep correct on the wood(cherry and white oak). I have quite a mix, poplar, maple and some red and pin oak also. Just had to put it in front of the good stuff though. The new saw just ripped through that white oak and wanted more. I want...
