    Walbro K20-WAT vs K10-WAT

Genuine K20-WAT's seem to be in short supply here in the UK, or at least expensive at near twice the price paid a while ago, K10's seem to be about £7 which is the same as they used to be. Now, tedious I know but what's the difference between the pump diaphragms? The K20 being the beige almost...

    Aspen Fuel?

Yes, very strange. I was using the straight fuel version with Stihl HP red at about 40:1, perhaps it doesn't like mixing with mineral? Maybe their own 2T version would give different result but at the price it is I won't be bothering to find out. If I had a disposable saw I'd run it for a...

    Aspen Fuel?

Necro thread? New one on me, somebody's coined a phrase for everything...... I tend to look at the thread rather than the dates. The thread wanders around a bit, and If I'm not committing some sort of forum faux pas here's what I found. Put some in my HT75 pole saw, did not like it one...

Bridgeless transfer ports on Stihl 026 / 260 oem

The open port cylinder was ported to the usual numbers (can always cut more if it sucked) 100/120/80 Comp around 230 psi Seems pretty strong to me so I'm happy, ran it next to my stock 034s today and it's within a couple of seconds. WOT was 13440 after clearing the case so quite slow, in the...

    Aspen Fuel?

Missing the point completely. If you're constantly running fresh fuel you don't have the issue of ethanol absorbing water from the atmosphere and depositing it in the carb, where it then corrodes the metals. You do have the issue of that and other solvents in pump fuel degrading the hoses and...

Bridgeless transfer ports on Stihl 026 / 260 oem

So anyway...... Finally got around to testing them both out, not in any real deep way against the clock with the same chain etc. Just picking them up and cutting, both ported closed and open port saws were similar, maybe the closed had the edge. Both cut way stronger than stock though which...

    Stihl 026 porting query...

Polishing turds...? I've got a saw that needs a cylinder, the machinery, tools, ability and what's left of an enquiring mind so I thought I'd have a go at making it what it could be. Not interested in race saws or wasting fuel cutting disks against a clock. As long as it's noticeably stronger...

    Stihl 026 porting query...

Nothing, just seemed to be moving away from the focus of the thread into a more general porting question. I did mention my concern about the potentially excessive compression before I recut the exhaust but nobody piped up so I thought it must have fizzled out. I will revisit it when I've got the...

    Stihl 026 porting query...

Thanks for the help and photos. Kinda wish I'd had left it at 102° then but I'm not broken hearted, it's still got plenty of comp and maybe I'll advance it up a bit too. Part of the reason I cut the ex roof was to see what happens to the comp, it's not the best cylinder so I'm having a bit of...

    Stihl 026 porting query...

Another one.... I've read lots of threads, people sometimes speak about "aggressive" timing numbers or blowdown with no explanation. Am I right in thinking an aggressive blow down would be a short blow down duration with the transfers opening relatively early?

    Stihl 026 porting query...

Thanks guys, confirmed what I suspected. This is my first stab at it, I'm pleased overall as it is noticeably stronger in a heavy cut but it doesn't seem to free rev much higher than stock. Not worried about that, just a bit surprised. I was a bit conservative with the upper transfers, I think...

    Stihl 026 porting query...

Long story short I have some piston kits from Stihl that are now supplied from Brazil with open ports, as apposed to the original Mahle closed design. They are pretty much identical and good quality, I want to port a couple for some saws I have, but decided to port a Mahle set up that was a bit...

Bridgeless transfer ports on Stihl 026 / 260 oem

Been having fun and games messing around swapping the two cylinders and cases, found that there can be significant deviation in the crank deck height. And figured if you have to put any effort into rolling the piston over tdc with the solder in place you'll probably get inaccurate readings...

Bridgeless transfer ports on Stihl 026 / 260 oem

Thanks, I've got some .028 solder on order so will double check with that before going any further. I expect it's the solder though I could have under cut the base, seems to have plenty of compression. As a side note one of the other 026's I have feels a bit low on compression compared to the...

Bridgeless transfer ports on Stihl 026 / 260 oem

So, I've had a chance to do the cutting. Took around 1.1mm off the band at the outside to get the 5° cut to the dome. Knocked ½° off the compound and skimmed the piston. Checked squish at 1.6mm so took a skim to get a bit closer and double check, nice and even all round at 0.82mm. Decided to...

Bridgeless transfer ports on Stihl 026 / 260 oem

Had it chucked up ready and got to thinking...... Why? So got into some reading about squish bands and angles, Stihl must have there reasons for not doing a simple flat band and piston. I guess it's cos of the offset chamber. The piston crown isn't a true dome, the outer 3/4" follows a 5°...

Bridgeless transfer ports on Stihl 026 / 260 oem

Reiterating that as the comments from guys that have cut these jugs would have been talking about the old Mahle's.

Bridgeless transfer ports on Stihl 026 / 260 oem

The jug chamber's are different shapes, that's why I'm getting + 15psi on the Brazil for the same squish. I set a depth gauge to 0.04 over the squish, the black sharpie mark is where the depth gauge touches, on the Brazil jug it's twice as far from the jug wall so a wider squish band for the...

Bridgeless transfer ports on Stihl 026 / 260 oem

Fixture made, just waiting on some long bolts. This is what I mean about the difference in the two jugs, both have 0.02" squish at the edge. If I take a 0.04" cut the band on the Brazil jug will be at least twice as wide as the Mahle, checking with a depth gauge marked with black sharpie. Good...

    Getting your money's worth.......

This made me laugh, bought an 026 from eBay spares / repairs, buyer said the clutch was faulty..... Other than this, a carb kit and the usual horrible bar and chain it's a really good saw.... What's frightening is it came in an MS250 box so he's presumably bought a new saw.
