    Want to Buy Stihl 090

Are you collecting or milling? Look through the classified adds on this site. I found an 1106 contra and an 076 super. Both were running saws. I got a smoking deal on a cosmetically challenged 090 that I mill with. They do pop up occasionally. Both of the saws I mentioned were still available or...

    Sperber mill

I went to buy a wood lathe this weekend from the estate of a gentleman who did Timber framing. While loading the lathe and checking out the other tools in this man's shop I stumbled upon what I believe is part of a sawmill attachment. The internet search I did showed the company to be out of...

    First "kit" saw build

The chain tensioner may get there first. For the money I spent it would have been a very well spent genuine Stihl to match the price of the clone. After this I may build a "real" 066 but for now I'm learning.

    First "kit" saw build

Thanks for the tip Brad. I'll check that for sure.

    First "kit" saw build

I figured the parts would be a guessing game so no need to call China. I knew from the start that there would be no guidance from them. This is a learning experience for me and nothing more. I support my local Stihl dealer. Currently I run a 064, 090, and Remington pl5. The goal is to become...

    First "kit" saw build

Thanks for the pdf's. That will help. I already had the shop manual but not the exploded views.

    First "kit" saw build

Good morning. I purchased a farmertec ms 660 kit hoping to get a usable saw and gain some knowledge of how to work on the saws I currently use. The crank is in the but I have no idea which bag of screws goes where. I know where and what the parts of the saw are but how does one go about figuring...

    Chainsaws for milling

I use a Stihl 090. Plenty of power but also very porky. Definitely a workout to handle but I found it self feeding on a large beech tree on a steep hillside. I am waiting on a ms660 clone kit and big bore p/c to arrive. It was cheap and I am curious to see how it will work in the mill.

Nice! Is that a woodfast lathe?

    First time milling setup

I used a g777 mill with a Stihl 064 and 20 inch bar. I also used ripping chain. It did fine but the saw seemed to be working hard in a wide cut. I like the fact that it is light and easily portable. That being said the 090 is a pig of a saw but easily cuts slabs that the smaller saw struggles...

    Value 056 super

Looking for some thoughts on an 056 super. The saw is not currently running and according to the seller needs a condenser and all should be good. The ad is listed as make offer. What would you value the non-running saw to be considering it is an older chainsaw with a questionable ignition?

"better-built" RIPSAW portable sawmill - replacement blade recommendations?

One of those is for sale on Facebook marketplace. Seems like a neat idea but limited capacity. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/725113564659468/

    Reducing waste

I have used mine to make turning blanks for the lathe. The outside slabs if thick enough can yield a small bowl blank or I can sometimes get a 2 or 3in Square out to use for spindles. Otherwise it is in a pile beside the shop waiting to be charitably given to somebody for firewood.

    Mill upgrade

As luck would have it I managed to purchase a Granberg Mill package with auxiliary Oiler, chain grinder, helper handle, double ended bar, and to ripping chains brand new in the package. This package had been purchased by an acquaintance of mine 16 years ago and it was never used. I looked it up...
