    Forest service contracting

Thanks for the info. I wasn’t planning on getting into it this year, but trying to get my ducks in a row before I go into it. I was looking for some clarification on the solicitation years and whether that means I have to wait until the next set of solicitation years to be awarded a contract.

    Forest service contracting

Hey everyone, I’ve been looking around and wanted to reach out to everyone on here for advice. Im looking to contract with the forest service for a faller/faller module during the fire season. I’ve got 4ish years of commercial falling experience with mainly pondo and spruce/fir trees. I’ve got...

    Forest service contracting

Hey everyone, I wanted to reach out here and see if anyone here had any insight on a business venture I’ve been considering. I’m looking into contracting with the forest service as a faller/faller module. I’ve got roughly 4 years of faller experience with commercial cutting and have 5 ish...

Want to Buy Why lift bar tip when tensioning chain?

This is my little experience I have here, but I’ve been told lifting it raises the bar to match evenly with your gunning sights on the saw, for example the black lines on stihl’s. Not sure to the truth behind that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Want to Sell Still MS391 for parts/ not running

Good morning everyone, This was originally going to be a project for me but I lost steam on it and it’s just been gathering dust. Not exactly sure what’s wrong with it because I haven’t looked at it, piston has seen better days and appears scored. Not sure on the value of these running and non...

Anything new in 70+cc saws? / Stihl 500i

Absolutely. We recently switched from 362’s to 462’s. As a test we let my 500 and 462 sit in the summer sun for a little bit to see if there were any hot start issues. 462 took awhile to start whereas the 500 fired up after a couple primer bulb pumps. It’s the most reliable saw I have as of now...

Anything new in 70+cc saws? / Stihl 500i

I typically use my 462 to climb with if I need anything bigger than a top handle and use the 500 on the ground. That being said during the summer the 500 seems to do better and not have any hot start issues, sometimes my 462 doesn’t enjoy the hot weather. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anything new in 70+cc saws? / Stihl 500i

I use both a 500i and 462 at work and I mostly fall and buck. I always find myself reverting back to the 500i. The weight differences is negligible and the power difference is very noticeable. The 462 certainly has power and is a great saw, but why not have some more grunt with hardly any extra...

4x4 or 4x2 forestry bucket trucks

I’ve drove our companies 2wd bucket for awhile. I live in the Midwest so winter is from about September to may haha. We have a 2011 freight liner outfitted with a 70’ elevator. It’s absolutely worthless off pavement. Most of our jobs either require gravel roads or planking. I won’t take it off...

    square filing?

Pferd is a good company that makes files for “square filing”. I did it for awhile but each file I could get was around 13 dollars a file. The technique was very hard to get down for me. I went though a couple different chains at work before I noticed a good sharpness. I will admit it cuts a...

    Selling my ms461 locally

I would absolutely see $900 for this and not think it’s overpriced. I’ve ran 3 461’s and now a 500i and I can say that I prefer my 500i. Time will tell as I’ve only ran it for a couple months as far as durability. The 461’s are proven to be tanks, my 500i seems to be handling everything fine. I...

    500i sthil

It depends on what you’re doing. My truck has both on it and my 500i is my go to. I’ve ran mine almost every work day since I bought it in may( I work 5-6 days A week). The weight difference is negligible, especially when you’re taking into account the added power and throttle response. I’ve...
