stihl 066 vs old stihl 076 chainsaw

Great info for all & Stihl is pretty plentiful here due to advertisement. The Husky's are priced way out of reach down here. Jonsered is my go to for 2nd hand stuff as I only cut wood fairly occasionally these days but need good saws when I do.

stihl 066 vs old stihl 076 chainsaw

Hi Ted, yes, I only commented as there's not much discussion on the old bangers & I am looking at buying an 076 in very good nic & it is significantly cheaper than the 066 & above of course. I recently cut up 2 fallen trees. One was around 2 months on the ground & 32" circumference. Yellow Gum...

Try that on one of our Down Under Red Gums. Then, it'll be tested :)

Just bought new STIHL MS460, good choice??

No haha. Jonsered was the inventor of the first 1 man saw.... I appreciate all the major manufacturers & all I'll add here is, the smaller Stihl's are assholes to work on as are the late 90's early 2000's smaller J'Reds/Husky's. The nylon worm gears on the Stihl's are a joke!

    Stihl MS251

Agree especially with the last 2 points. My saw preference is older Husky & Jonsered's but the no adjustment for oilers is a bugger. Some oil too well & others, very lite on. I respect the larger Stihl's. Smaller Stilh's are hard little revvers but things like the Nylon Worm gears & yes, the...

That dealer wouldn't have his 2 front teeth left if he tried that arrogance & disregard with me. Prick!

    .043 v micro .043 chains?????

I have seen these skip tooth chains on a few chainsaws of late. This adds to why I've posted here to get some clarity as I must have a few strange saw bar/chain set ups that I am encountering. Kinda like tilt* tilt* beggers belief. Many novice home use customers here that you wouldn't believe...

    .043 v micro .043 chains?????

Sorry for all the posts as it's gotten confusing again. That earlier post of mine you quoted me on (2nd quote in your post above) was the bar I'd found on the 017 saw & didn't realise it was simply an upgrade until I'd researched further, as other posts afterwards explained. The main...

    .043 v micro .043 chains?????

The bar was a .050 I needed the chain for & that's what led me to see the 2 different .043 chains... Thanks for the info

    "You Suck" Thread 2019--Pics required!

Don't see that needing much cleaning. The condition I receive saws in to service/repair is repulsive! Can take me 30 mins with Turps or petrol just to clean inside pullstart/clutch brake assemblies/covers before I even start servicing :o This is Pristine imho! If there was a better word to use...

Tell me about it! You pay through the teeth down under for any 2nd hand thing unless you fluke someone ignorant of what they have.... Stuff found in the US is like another world for me lol. Other than a bulk lot I paid for months ago & had a running 020avp amongst it that just needed bar & chain...

    .043 v micro .043 chains?????

Down here they use terms like Picco lite also to describe the .043 size chains, just as the Micro Lite you mention but, I've seen these other very light weight chains that are physically different looking & don't understand that some saw chains are listed the same as the Pole saw chains yet, I'd...

    .043 v micro .043 chains?????

After agonising with Stihl dealer here. The MS170 & 180 both had the .043 gauge bar & chains standard. The 170 had the 14" & the 180 could have either the 14" bar & chain combo or 16" but both were .043. This was the dilemma for me that someone in their infinite wisdom decided to replace both...

    .043 v micro .043 chains?????

Yeah Bob, you'd think but bar wasn't known @ the time. Also, the .043 chains delivered have smaller, narrower cutting links than my other .043 ones for the MS170's. This is what I find bazaar....

    .043 v micro .043 chains?????

Ok, spoke to an old timer that runs a Stihl shop. The 170 & 180's ran the .043 gauge stock. Problem I have is this seller doesn't understand that he has sent me pole saw weighted chains. The .050 gauge bars & chains I've got here recently have been replaced by owners or previous owners of their...

    .043 v micro .043 chains?????

This is a 050 gauge 3/8 chain beside the smaller one posted above that I'm on about. But the cutter links on the 050 gauge are the same size as the other 3/8 .043 chains I sold out of yesterday.

    .043 v micro .043 chains?????

The picture of chain doesn't justify what I say. I don;t have the thicker 3/8 .043 chain to compare as I sold the last yesterday.... The cutter links along with rest of chain in pic are tiny & weigh bugger all, as a pole saw link does.
