I'm not a collector, but I did pick up a 330EVL about a month ago, cleaned it up, cleaned the carb, and it runs great. It is a small 33cc split case saw. I'm giving it to a friend of mine.

Ok, another question - idle speed drops after the saw warms up. Air leak? There is not a high idle feature built into the carburetor - that feature is built into the handlebar. I am not using the high idle.

I found a user's manual and a service manual online as pdf files. There was a max operating rpm but I think that is in wood.

I recently bought an Echo CS-330EVL online for $35. It was very dirty, but after a general cleaning and a carb clean, it runs great! I changed the high a little bit while tuning it, if someone knows the max unloaded (out of wood) rpm to set the high speed, please let me know. Thanks.

Great diagnosis! One thing about the homeowner line of Poulans is that they are driven from the shaft, not the clutch. Even at idle, they are pumping oil.

Yours has the choke and on/off switch on the same side - this is a strato saw (later version.) Most parts are compatible with a Poulan 4218, except yours does not have Anti-vibration. Another way to identify them is the silver muffler on the strato saws, the earlier non-strato saws have a black...

That happened to me too, on a weed eater and blower. Ran great when I cleared the exhaust ports of dirt!

If you make your own vent, check out the poulan gas caps from China on ebay. A lot of them do not have a vent - solid caps.

The two customer return saws you bought - were those the VMInnovations returns that are on ebay? Some are advertised as refurbished working, and some are advertised as not working, for parts only. I wonder if a carb cleaning would bring one of the parts only saws back to life.
