My oldest cutting down his first tree...

There was a clear path, and thank you for saying something about that. The grass was too high for you to see it. That section is actually the trail head to the little park we have cleaned up in the bottom. I didn’t know that about steering. However that makes sense. Less holding wood...

engine dies as you give it gas

The last time I had this happen there was a crack in the fuel lines. I am not saying that is what it is, just talking out loud.

Bueahahaha That’s what posted and I hadn’t even read your post yet.

Not yet. But... It’s just like with Black Powder Rifles. There are those who have dry balled, and those who haven’t yet... LOL (Dry Balling is where you forgot to put powder in before you loaded the ball.)

First and most important. I appreciate everyone being civil!! Any comments that were made here were posted with a safety first mentality. It was noticed. Second, this is long… What you didn’t see in the video is the steps leading up to the felling, or after. Darren and I had been cutting...

LOL. Darren is the one who cut the notch. He learned he cut the notch too high.

Oh please be picky! I am a NRA instructor and a Chief RSO. When on the range with Boy Scouts, safety is the most important thing on the range. Just saying. I have watched hours and hours of video from the American Forest and the BC falling standard. I don’t have the resources with using...

I was trying very hard to let him do it and not take over. When he put the saw on his leg, I actually grabbed the bottom of that MS 180. But again, thanks for the comments!!! If y’all didn’t care, you would not have said anything!!

Great responses!! Darren actually cut the Humbult. I had to recut it to clean it up, but that was the reason for the height. I helped him with the plunge cut, but that was because he didn’t know how to do it and I was using the EDGE method. And yes, the saw was gassed and sharp. We did go...

My oldest cutting down his first tree...

Ps, I am in no way an expert in felling. I know just enough to get me in trouble. LOL However, I can at least pass on what I have learned. I don’t want my boys to learn the same way I did. Just saying.

    Husqvarna forestry axe

Mine holds an edge well. I am talking a razor sharp, shave hair off your arm, sharp. Mine came with three very distinct grind marks near the edge/bit. I wrapped sand paper around a wood block and sanded them out. The mask is not bad, but be careful of the rivets. They will chip your...

Oh ya, in regards to the ripping chain... I changed the angle I was cutting and it was on. He is one of the piles of saw dust.

Ok fish. I sharpened the chains this morning before I started and tried again. The 25in bar with a “sharp chain” cut like a different chain. I guess I should have sharpened it before I ever put it on.

Funny you should say those things. 1) I tried to order the 391 with an 18in bar. The dealer said they didn’t have one 2) you evil thing. I have been thinking about that for a while.

That is exactly what I am doing. The rounds are so large we have a hard time moving around the quarters. LOL

Ya, I was using the 25 in bar with the full chisel for ripping because that is what I had. LOL. I bet that setup would be a lot better under normal use. Still learning. Thanks for the responses so far!!

I am not a “pro sawer”. The fact that I have run my little 445 as hard as I have for the last 9 years tells me my 391 will be fruitful for yeas. For most of what I do “I” don’t need the 25 in bar. But it is nice to have it when you need it. The wood I will manly be cutting is Bois-d-arc...
