Just Starting Out - How am I most likely to hurt myself?

I am partially at fault here too. Not a lot of content in the rec climbing section, this was one of the most recent posts. I read through without looking at the dates and added my thoughts. Woops!

Help identifying a tree in my yard that has to be removed, is it valuable?

We don't get this option too often, but a lot of repeat customers in our area don't mind doing the bucking or clearing brush. We all get excited when we see "drop and leave" on the job sheet. I hate raking.

    Pioneer chainsaws

P38 and up have similar body styles. I am quite certain a p40, 41, 42 recoil side is the same as the farm saw. Those plastic cogs it has have been known to wear out too quite easily

Help identifying a tree in my yard that has to be removed, is it valuable?

Just reading through your post again, you said they will charge you MORE if they leave it?? That doesn't make sense to me 🤔 However, as mentioned above.. 3k is a very good price!

Help identifying a tree in my yard that has to be removed, is it valuable?

Ha! This is a good one. Thank you. Recently opened up a free firewood ad on Marketplace in my area. Ad stated you can come cut the tree and have the wood for free. This tree was rather tall, towering over a house, growing in the backyard, spanning over neighboring properties.. Ironically, it...

    What made these holes?

Here's a couple I tried to get a bit closer up. This goes al little bit over half way around the trunk. Had a good look today, no other areas like this on the tree. I just dead limbed and pruned it this afternoon

    What made these holes?

The second photo is the attack pattern you are seeing in the left side of the first photo. Wasn't able to get a good shot of it that day, it was freezing and wind was howling. Also I am short so I barely caught any if it in the frame. I'll post a couple more and have a look for any other...

    What made these holes?

Thanks guys. Looking at the holes I was concerned about the health of the tree. Glad to know it's benign

    Water Oak cracked bark question

I agree with attempting to prune for weight reduction. It's a nice tree and I always like to try and preserve big oaks when possible. With that though, from what I can tell in the photos, the crack appears to be a split in that lead. So weight reduction may save that portion of the tree but it...

    To look up, or not!

Our main climber last year was very insistent on doing things his way. Even sparked an argument with the boss on one site. Oh that was a doozie, customer was present on site.. Boss was in the mini ex, tensioning the pull line for a big dead red pine. We were felling it close to the septic lid...

    To look up, or not!

Since attending a recent arborists conference, our employer has insisted on us almost always using a bore cut instead of a back cut. I didn't like it all that much at first, but have found it an exceptionally safe method to make a felling cut. This allows for careful inspection of the tree...

12.5" wide tire on stock 7.5" wheels?

My first truck was a Chevy S-10 The previous owner had slammed it. I brought it back to stock height and put the original tire size back on it, 16" wheels A lot of people think it looked cool with the suspension drop, but it couldn't haul anything and had no ground clearance. Bumped on every...

12.5" wide tire on stock 7.5" wheels?

Yep, I have noticed most of these tires are 10 or even 12 ply E rated. I am running Hercules T/X currently. Put them on after I got several punctures in the stock Goodyears over time. They are noticeably heavier and louder when on the pavement, but they ride exceptionally well. Forgot to...

12.5" wide tire on stock 7.5" wheels?

I had them installed a couple years ago. Just the 5100s on the front, and I then went up to the 33s. They are bald and I wanna run 35s Again I appreciate the input, I'll see what is available. Though I may go with a slightly more narrow tire to suit the stock wheel
