    Piñata parties

how do you all deal with the dreaded piñata of ants or other bugs ? I've been buying log lengths ever since my truck died. I really don't need any extra insects in the little bit of woods I have. I keep a small can of stale gas ready and burn them as best as I can when I see them.

How the hell did I kill another Stihl?

So much drama in between this breakdown and a diagnosis / repair.... Thanks to all who helped me out. I ended up putting this on the back burner because my tractor (51 Ferguson T0 30) shat the bed... fixed the carburetor, welded the exhaust manifold back on and upgraded the intake to a K&N cone...

Ethanol free fuel, or not quite?

I had this revelation this morning on the way to work.... I just went to my not too far away ethanol free pump and filled up for the pending apocalypse. The first can I filled was 2 gallons for mixed gas. Looking into this on motorcycle and other high performance forums it can be anywhere...

How the hell did I kill another Stihl?

Upon disassembly this saw was heavily abused... There's GOBS of crap in the flywheel center, behind all the nooks, under the carb, etc. Running a few tanks of 40:1 premium mix did not kill this one...it definitely didn't save it either. I'll have it back in service shortly. I want to wait...

How the hell did I kill another Stihl?

I started looking at it last night, I see what you mean about the disassembly sequence... Still looks like 1/10 the work of pulling apart a 290. I'm getting off cheap for this one... And getting a little bit of education too. My wife sees it as a loss, I'm still way ahead of burning oil... About...

How the hell did I kill another Stihl?

Wow Okie! That is pretty thorough! Good to know! I have to commit to the vac/pressure testing first. I have a standard Vacuum pump, but I have to get something together for pressure. I need to do some searching on this topic, it's pretty clear that if I invest the time in testing that I'll save...

How the hell did I kill another Stihl?

30 minutes! So I made the right choice on a pro saw

How the hell did I kill another Stihl?

Thanks for the insight! I do have a good mechanical background, but I have very little experience with 2 strokes. I have the expectation that a commercial saw or even a homeowner saw should supply me with firewood until I'm old enough for a pellet stove The fine dust is indicative of being run...

How the hell did I kill another Stihl?

Is that from running too much oil? Or running rich?

How the hell did I kill another Stihl?

The pre mix came 50:1, I did the math and added a little more mix (Stihl platinum mix) I bought one of those graduated cylinders that we used to use for our dirt bikes to do the in can mix. Pumped a gallon of E-free at the gas station. Both fuels are in sealed cans since September. I'll do a...

How the hell did I kill another Stihl?

So I was just overjoyed to get my290 to 390 rebuild up and running, I made a few cuts and gave it some rest. Fired up the 261 to lay down a few trees on the list and it stalled out on me... Weird. Thinking about it the last time I ran it, it stalled and seemed a little weaker in the cut. I...

No problem, I'm not ruling out user error... I'm not the best with the fine details.

    Ms290 post rebuild flooding...

Looking back on my order for the parts I did not get an OEM rebuild kit. I'm going to suspect the needle/ metering lever is NFG Chinese junk right out of the box. Lesson learned the hard way. I really have no way to tell, but the new oem one did the trick. For my next trick I think I'm going...

    Ms290 post rebuild flooding...

Got the new carb in the mail, she's running like a champ. Really appreciate the help The 390 is replacing a burned up 291. Came up cheaper that way for me if free time is really a thing... Took a while to get it done right, but worth it! Last year I had 1 chainsaw and it blew up... Now I have...

    Ms290 post rebuild flooding...

Lol! New carb on the way... I adjusted the metering lever so that it's just a hair clear of a straight edge. What would make the fuel keep flowing with the Carb removed though? I left for a few hours to work on the car, came home and it's sitting in a puddle! Bad saw! Do I whack it with a newspaper?

    Ms290 post rebuild flooding...

I found a schematic on here with the correct gasket sequence. I also tried both new and old needles and metering levers at the level height. I am kind of ham handed when it comes to these tiny pieces... I have the mityvac setup, I'll try the metering lever again and do a pressure test.

    Ms290 post rebuild flooding...

I'm sorry if this is redundant, searching through the threads there's a ton of people who have messed up their saw during the rebuild process... And a very disappointing 9 part youtube video I got it for $40 someone straight gassed it. The rest of the saw is in great shape. I put a meteor 390...

3 point safety harness for climbing?

Happy Friday gentlemen, I'm sorry in advance if I didn't search this properly some of these topics get beat to death... I would like to eventually get up in the trees for recreational and yard work purposes. I have a few 3 point safety or positioning harnesses from work for fall protection...
