around our area (upper NY) everyone seems to sell "face cords" which is meant to imply 16" lengths. i don't know if this is a law in NY or just what everybody adheres to. thanks for your explanation as far as possibly being other than 1/3 of a cord.

thanks for the support as far as calling it a primer. i checked the manuals for my snow blower, leaf blower, lawn trimmer, and lawn mower and they all referred the bulb as a Primer bulb or Priming bulb. maybe the technical term for people who work on carburetors is a purging bulb but to the lay...

i have some 2x4x8's to keep it off the ground. you stated "might be a good idea to get it burned the season". are you saying it should be burned this season? i thought ash was a relatively hard wood and does it have to season for a while? thanks!

the big box store's splitter operates horizontal and vertical. pretty sure the local rental one does also but i will verify if i rent from them. thanks for the tip on putting 2 x 6 (8) in front of splitter to make it even with the splitter base. that should save on my back a little!!

i'm a relative newbie regarding chainsaws so i'm just referring to what the manual calls it, a Primer Bulb. and for starting the engine the manual refers to "Slowly press primer bulb 6 times".

yes, it says to prime the bulb 6 times which is exactly what i can not do when the engine is hot.
