    Help saving post oak tree

I live on three acres in the country. Only targets would be wildlife or my dogs but they rarely get around it. It's out in the middle of my big front yard away from the house and road. Agree on longshot and the only estimate I got was a guess of about $1500 to brace it up with no guarantees...

    Help saving post oak tree

Thank you so far. I hadn't considered the negative effect of closing the gap, so I agree with anchoring as it is now or taking steps to trim weight from the leaning part. The good news is the tree was holding itself up before I added the strap and it is in the same place now as it was then...

    Help saving post oak tree

Tornado last January started this then straight line winds in April split it apart from the other half. It's not really split, it grew this way. A friend and I were able to get a 10k strap in the tree last year to hold it but have not been able to get help to make a permanent fix. The tree...

    Husqvarna 288xp

I found mine in a pawn shop for $150 with all original parts and put about $90 of factory small parts into it, plus a fancy Tsumura 24" bar ($85) and H47 chain ($20). That's $345 for a good running big saw, but I can't imagine asking MORE than I have in it, unless someone just had to have it...

    Oil Question

This thread proves a universal truth: If it has the word "oil" in the title, it's bound to be a fruitless, pointless waste of time.

    Sold Husqvarna 359

If only that green fuel cap meant diesel conversion I might be interested. Otherwise, it is purdy; GLWS!

My first bore cut and a kickback observation

I'm still cleaning up tornado droppings two months later, mostly due to work and weather. Today, I ran the 288XP and 24-inch Tsumura combo for the first time on pine, mostly 8 to 20-inch laydowns after the sawmill came for the really big stuff. I went for it on my first bore cut which was the...

Best saw build under $1000 for firewood cutting saw enthusiast?

Why don't you tell her how how stupid she is for thinking that a chainsaw "chops"! I'm sure the new saws are great, I just like the boxy look of the older saws. I like the screwed on tops better; latches are ugly. Primer/purge bulbs don't belong on pro saws. I'm not a pro nor do I saw for a...

Best saw build under $1000 for firewood cutting saw enthusiast?

True. True. However, where I shop, the Tussy Light & Tough is only $10 more than the Husqy HT388.

Best saw build under $1000 for firewood cutting saw enthusiast?

Get one of Dan's 390XPs (2 left) for $825 shipped in the Tradin' Post. Another hundred and change you can have a Tsumara 24 inch bar and H47 chain. Spend the rest on oil n gas.

    What's on your bench

Work it out; maybe needs a new fuel or air filter? Or the tune isn't right. My newly acquired 257 wouldn't oil; I R'nR'd the oiler so many times, but nothing i did worked. Didn't want to spend a Ben on a new oiler, so I took a chance on a $30 ebay refurb and it works! I may send my oiler to the...

Safety vs. pro chain compare and questions

This is a pic of two Husqvarna 3/8-inch, 0.050 gauge, 24-inch chains brand new from the box. Top is H80 "green label" safety chain; bottom is H47 "yellow label" pro chain. The H80 doesn't appear to have safety links like some descriptions say it should have, and not like some other chains I...

What Saw's On The Kitchen Island Today

I like full orange of the older saws. Husqy must think they have to go two tone in order to compete with Steal. I also like how the 2-series clutch cover goes over the handle; looks cleaner.

Observations & Questions about CRAFTSMAN Chainsaws

It's not a bad looking saw. Gets plenty of good reviews at Lowes.com. The only thing I don't like the looks of is the recessed oil filler cap; looks difficult to remove and pour in oil without spilling. On a throw-away saw, you're better off just taking it back if it doesn't do what you want...

Getting chains sharpened or buy new.

Depends on how often you use a saw, but sharpening is the better deal. That's a good price; $6.50 here. Sharpen yourself isn't hard. I got the Husqy roller guide system and did pretty good. Now I have the Pferd tool and I like it better. Trying out a 20-inch chain I sharpened this weekend.

What Was The Best 70 CC Husky

How does the 272 stack up? I found one at the pawn shop calling my name. Not in as good shape as my 288 but might have potential.

What Saw's On The Kitchen Island Today

The 288 went back on the counter today for to check out my new Pferd sharp'ner. I had already mounted an H47 on the Tsumura, but put the pawn shop chain back on for to sharpen. Things were going okay until I came upon a skip chain, which I was not expecting. Turns out, there were only 83...

can't get hi RPMs down to spec.--air leak?

No that's not it. Reuse that gasket unless you have oil blowing out over everything. Most muffs are gutted anyway not giving any backpressure. Maybe pull everything apart and start over is usually how I roll, even on motorcycle. I usually figure out my error that way.
