    Nik's Poulan Thread

Does anyone have a source for 330, 3750/380 piston and cylinders?. I should have purchased them years ago before they become unavailable but as always other things to spend money on like kids. LOL

    Anyone Use Race Gas?

Not worth it unless you can find non ethonal non oxygenated unleaded for longer shelf life. There are some high dollar fuels(highly toxic) that can increase power but the carb would need to be reworked which is not for a work saw.

    Huskies ROCK!!!

Does the XT carb help at all on the 390 in your experience?. I'm reluctant to try it since the 390 runs darn good with the stock carb.

West Ky 385/390 build off update....$$$

Heck if a person has the coin, they could get a billet cylinder made with "perfect port timing" and combustion chamber volume. Of course the cost of digitizing, CNC time, and the billet aluminum block would be quite costly. It could even be done with a removable chamber(two piece cylinder)...

    661 Oil Test 32:1 vs 40:1 vs 50:1 ?

The decomp hole would be a good place for a Kistler cylinder pressure transducer if needed.

    661 Oil Test 32:1 vs 40:1 vs 50:1 ?

No it has to be after the exhaust port. Weld the fitting on the muffler close as you can to the flange, it will most likely end up 1/2 to 1 inch from the flange.

    661 Oil Test 32:1 vs 40:1 vs 50:1 ?

Automotive exhaust temps can reach between 1650-1900 deg at WOT depending on piston design and cooling capability and if a catalyst brick is present. I'm curious to see if a chainsaw exceeds 1100 deg at max load.

    661 Oil Test 32:1 vs 40:1 vs 50:1 ?

I would use a 1/16 K type thermocouple and a hand held fluke attached to the handle.

    661 Oil Test 32:1 vs 40:1 vs 50:1 ?

I'm using up the R50 at 40:1 in my string trimmer and blower, it smells decent also. The chainsaws will get to try some Yamalube.

    661 Oil Test 32:1 vs 40:1 vs 50:1 ?

I have had good luck with SEF and C10 mixed 40-1 with Stihl Ultra. That new VP fuel I will for sure try once I get my hands on some. Any good racer will keep their fuel cool as possible away from sun light. Many of the race fuels you need rubber gloves to prevent it from getting on your skin.

    661 Oil Test 32:1 vs 40:1 vs 50:1 ?

I checked the VP website and it specifically says to keep that fuel cool, that could be a issue on a hot day.

    Another Big Bore Question

I have only used the Gen 1 and Gen 2 046/460 big bore from Baileys. They both had good and bad points, the Gen 2 free ported stock due to the shortening of the piston skirts(the exhaust port floor was raised and piston skirts shortened). I have not used or seen the Highway 046/460 big bore so I...

That 14.7 stoich does not apply to pump E10 fuels which have a stoich of 14.0-14.20. Lamda of 1.000 is stoich and .850 is usually 11.9-12.07 with pump E10 fuels. Most still go off the non E10 fuel so I thought this info may be of some help.
