    Newb needs advice...

I think you have something funny going on with the mill, don't know if the problem is in the saw, chain/bar, or mill. I also just use reg chain for the little milling I've done, and it is much smoother that you are showing. Rich S.

    General Milling Question

Typhoon, Each tree species has some particular advantages and disadvantages, using that particular species depends mostly on it's intended use. Almost any species works for wood turning and furniture, and the more unusualy often the better. That sycamore can be absolutely stunning. Popular...

Don't know about the Dolmar. Try a search on this site or ask in another thread. Rich S.

    30 inch bar

Kwdog75, I got that ol' CS4400, it just keeps going, and going, and going. I cut about 8-10 times a year 40" pecan trunks for turning and woodworking wood. Got a Echo CS 620 (or what ever the exact model # is) and it is not enought for a 30" bar in hard, old oak or pecan. The big Echo...

Forgive me Father, for I have seriously sinned....

In the last 15 years, I've bought about 8 chain saws of differenct cheap brands. Craftsmans, Poulan Wild Thing, Eager Beavers, and one good Echo, a CS-4400. All of them died really fast, either needing repairs or would not start The echo lived thru it all and did a good job. Needed a bigger...

    Echo Chain Saws

Mid '90s CS-4400 and a newer CS 670. Also, a Makita 6400 that will not keep running, and an old Craftsman that is better than the Makita. Threw the Wild thing and Eager Beaver away. Rich S.

Lookin' for a new saw...want suggestions (try 2)

D, I'm one of small number of us here LOVE Echo chainsaws, and believe they offer both an excellent value as well as a very reliable, good saw. Echo makes a CS-520 that is a 50cc (3.06ci.) saw that would be a very good all around saw. It is probably a bit heavier and slightly less power than...

    Electric Chainsaw

I HATE electric chainsaws, mainly because I need one a lot and can't find an inexpensive one that will work worth a darn. I use the saw inside my woodworking shop at night, in a residental neighborhood. Keep big turning blanks and sections of trunk for turning, and use the elelctric chainsaw...

    Firewood saws

Klink....Klink.... (that's the sound of my 2 cents...) I believe that for the "under 6 cords of wood a year" type of guy whose ego is not wrapped up with how big their saw is, a good 40 to 50 cc saw and a 18" bar will handle almost all of what they need. My personal choice is the Echo...

    Echo (Kioritz) & Shindaiwa

For general info here, this is from the new release in the Echo website earlier this year: Kioritz / Shindaiwa Alliance CHICAGO, IL. (May 21 2007) - Today it was announced in Japan that Kioritz Corporation (Kioritz), the parent company of ECHO Incorporated has entered into a business and...

    Echo CS-670 Vrs. Stihl MS260

volks-man, Your thread a couple of weeks ago started in the morning and by afternoon you had made up your mind and bought whatever you wanted. I didn't read it till later, and then really, who cared. You had already pulled the trigger. We need some time to digest and post stuff. Rich S.

    Echo CS-670 Vrs. Stihl MS260

Got to put my two cents in and say definietely buy the Echo. Recently compared the Stihl 440 to the Echo CS-670 and bought the Echo. Why you ask? Based on my expereince, it will last longer, will start after neglect and abuse, and I don't care if it weights 4.219 ounces more than the Stihl or...

    New or Used Chainsaw?

Chainsaw selection, huh? (Thanks, sure is nice to spend someone else's money for a change....) I'm a rebelious character who refuses to pay serious extra money for a fancy name instead of more machine. Started out with homeowner chainsaws, and went thru 54 of them before I got my first Echo...

Uh oh....looks like I might need to buy 2 saws this week!

Grant, 24 to 26" soft maples or firs, only a couple a year, and easy on the pocket. Good performance. Sounds like an Echo CS670 would work well with a 24" bar. I got one recently and use it on pecan tree trunks that size to cut up turning blanks and am really happy with it. Compared it to...

    Finishing Question???

czeigler, Only you can figure out what you want with what you got and the look you desire. Yes, poly can work with pine. So can shellac, laquer, basic or fancy oil based products, epoxy, etc. Try what you think you want on a sample piece, then ask yourself if the whole piece finished as such...

    weeping willow

Did a search on the truning section of the woodnet.net forum on weeping willow: "It is kind of stringy, but looks nice when turned. Very light weight, so if you turn a thick wall it still feels light. I have been told that you can use a cherry stain and it looks remarkably like cherry. Never...

    weeping willow

Hi Rob, Weeping willow wood - not really sure. The crotch sections with great grain and curl would interest some of the turners..., but they might be hard to find. Might just be shop wood, or extra wood to try out new weird projects on. Rich S.
