    Leaner technique

Tree just had a funky sharp lip to it on the original snipe so I cut that off so it would close on a larger more square piece of wood. My backcut looks all wamperjawed because of I had to cut all the bark off because it kept plugging up my bar and chain. Tree did have some side lean to it as...

    Falling pics 11/25/09

Some cutting work around a friends house today. Cedar was one the worst I have cut on for clogging up the bar and chain with pitch and bark had to end up cutting all the bark off with my little saw to finish the backcut.

    Who does good porting work?

Modded saws have their purpose and for those of us who make a living sawing wood or in my case cutting the nasty weakened burned crap I want the fastest cutting saw I can get. Less time being under these tree/snags. Now for those that are recreational sawyers who just run a saw occasionally and...

    Saw recommendations for wildland firefighting

Thanks for the replies fellas I think the Husky 372 will be the choice. Already have a good Husky 372 parts inventory when we switched to Stihls back in 2002 due to the weak lower ends in the old husky 372's.

    Wedge Stacking?

Like was said in numerous posts above I usually only use that method of wedging to lift a set back tree up to get some started in the original kerf if a wedge has been initially started. Works well every time I have used it. Can see the reasoning in the first pic but again this GOL stuff is...

    Saw recommendations for wildland firefighting

Hello all I wanted to throw a question out there for any fire folks what saws they are using on their crews to cut fire line and fall snags up to 25" dbh. Looking for some specific feedback about the Husky 562xp since I am all too familiar with the Stihl 362C being junk for fire work. Let the...

Wow have not heard some of those names for a few years. Walt Galer I remember his saw chain posts and the early builders cryptic replies that left my novice mind spinning. Lol

Husky 55 Rancher stops running after cutting larger wood.

Took it back to the shop and they are going to replace it with a OEM p&c. After pulling the muffler and looking inside there was damage to the transfer port sides of the cylinder so I agree with posts that maybe a clip let go and started bouncing around for a few tanks.

Husky 55 Rancher stops running after cutting larger wood.

I will check that tomorrow when I pull the top end off. Just sucks to have new piston hatch so fast.

Husky 55 Rancher stops running after cutting larger wood.

Well I pulled the muffler and took a look see and yup 5 tanks in this cylinder is all scored but not on the exhaust port side it is on the transfers side of the cylinder almost like a lower bearing come loose and started bouncing around. Well guess this one is getting torn down again and find...

Husky 55 Rancher stops running after cutting larger wood.

Hello all just got a husky 55 rancher back from the saw shop after a p&c replacement and went firewood cutting to start putting some time on the break in. Well 5 tanks in and while cutting larger sized (15-20" diameter) oak the saw just quit running and would not start until it cooled down...

    is this professional ?

Hello all long time since I have posted but this one grabbed my attention. They do contract the hazard tree falling work along ohv and hiking trails on the northern cal forests since they get a lot of grant $ for this. Now judging from the 2 pics of the stumps it appears the first tree was a...

    7900 vs 385 vs 046

Oh forgot to add this was a early 2000's husky too. Got a pallet full of em from Guam as surplus property and to date most of them have all all failed in the bottom end so mine was really no surprise I just thought it was operator error and the type of cutting these saws were being used for...

    7900 vs 385 vs 046

Well just found out the lower bearing weakness issue in the 385. I upgraded the top end to a 390 p&c, opened up the exhaust port and matched the muffler port, thinned the carb screws and dual ported the muffler. Well this saw was a beaut to run for the time it had. Roughly less than 5 hrs...

    What NOT to do....

All I can say to these videos on this guys page is wow. Hung up falling wood in his climbing rope not just once but twice is'nt that rookie stuff from climbing 101 to mind your lines and keep your climb out of the way of any lowering work. He keeps bringing up that he is been doing this work for...
