Neem blasted Juniper... can't decide what to do?

This was a great "tree", in the front yard which had acquired spider mites last year. In my wisdom I sprayed it with Neem Oil, which even though it says nothing on the bottle, which was labeled "Safe and All Natural", apparently works like acid on Junipers. The result was the mites got under...

    Worried about spruce tree. Dying?

OK some more pics of the browning Spruce tree. There are some holes. But they are just in a few places, and now that I see them, I remember these, at least a few of them. Some are at least 3-4 years old. There is a small amount of sap but this is not all over the tree, you wouldn't notice...

    Worried about spruce tree. Dying?

I have never noticed any oozing, sap, or holes but I'm checking tomorrow in light I'll get some more pics. Perhaps it looks a little like this (first link), and I believe this is a Norway Spruce (??) Except that I have not noticed any purple leaves. Cytospora would seem a dreadful...

    Worried about spruce tree. Dying?

Of course you want to say that nothing is wrong, this is just something having to do with the season.... but its getting to the point where I may have to tell myself I'm in denial. I've seen this happen about five years ago, possibly not this bad. I do not know what the cause was, or what...

    The suicidal Kumquat Tree mystery

Now that I have your attention lol. I ordered two kumquat trees to grow in pots (will bring inside in winter, as I live in the Midwest). They were sent from the nursery with some fruit already on them, about 2-3 years old. They were staked with iron rods and I did notice the trunks looked...

    Perpetually worried about tree falling

Well I forgot to mention that it has always leaned like that, it grew leaning due to it being next to the other tree. In fact it doesn't seem to have appreciably moved at all, other than the cracks in the dirt. I don't know why a tree cutter told me they have a very deep tap root and never...

A tree covered in vines, should I chop the vines

I have a white pine tree in the back that has a vine on it, has had it at least 17 years now. The vine is absolutely massive now.... as thick as a small tree itself. The pine tree seems to be doing fine, doesn't appear to be in distress or dying anytime soon. In fact, its doing better...

    Perpetually worried about tree falling

Trying to get another photo. The tree is so big for a yard this size, I can't get the whole thing in one picture.

    Perpetually worried about tree falling

This is a black locust tree, at least I suspect... that grew up volunteer in the backyard, and it grew fast. There are actually two, a little too close together at this size and they have been leaning apart from each other as trees are apt to do in this situation. They are VERY tall now...

    Poison ivy ???(??)

Raspberry- Woohoo! Thats exactly what I wanted to plant there. What a strange coincidence. Well almost... I was going to try blackberries but close enough. I didn't think they grew that big that fast. I assume they have to flower before they make any fruit?

    Poison ivy ???(??)

Oh I can't get anything to work with the picture uploads. Here's some links through TinyPic. http://oi67.tinypic.com/sqiexy.jpg http://oi63.tinypic.com/34ywy1c.jpg The stems are getting white, which is interesting but the thing is growing in all directions now. No flowers or anything else...

    Poison ivy ???(??)

Interesting plant popped up in my backyard, so I let it go. I was hoping it might be a wild strawberry or something, but suddenly it has taken off and is growing like crazy! Leaves are getting really big and its got thorns. However I remembered "Leaves of three, let it be" etc etc and this...

    Hibiscus "Bali Minfren" - edible?

Why are flowers safer than leaves? And I'm wondering who would be able to tell for certain. However I've found the "Bali" is actually a new dealers variety of Hibiscus syriacus, or "Rose of Sharon", which is being toted just about everywhere as fully edible, leaves and all. That looks...

    Hibiscus "Bali Minfren" - edible?

Hi All, The local hardware store has a closeout on these trees, going very cheap. I have a small yard but wanted to experiment with some kind of edibles.... I've read on the Web the Hibsicus tree's flowers can be eaten, "fruits" made into tea and the leaves can also be put in salads. Of...

    Spruce Tree Mystery- Dying?

Thanks Mike, Will. That is a relief to hear. This year has been unusually dry (I had two new bushes brown & die out front nearby, but they were dwarf Albertas and I think they need more humidity.) You hit the key- watering. There is a driveway nearby and the previous owner put plastic &...

    Spruce Tree Mystery- Dying?

Hi All, I have had an ongoing thread in UBC Botanical Garden for some time now, about a Norway spruce tree that is dying in my front yard. The tree is about 4-5 stories high, and is the tallest tree on my block. Pictures and other information are here...
