Stump grinder options and mini skids

I have a 37 hp Vermeer 372 and a 25hp toro dingo. They live on a 16' 10,000 lb equipment trailer that goes behind the Dodge dump with a switch and go body. Perfect set up for stumps. Two guys go out, one preps ahead one grinds, then when the prepper is done he cleans up behind, either putting...

    Costs of Crane ownership

I bought a 16 ton two years ago. We have a lot of equipment to go with it though. 12" and 18" chippers, two large chip trucks, two buckets, dump truck, log truck, dingo, ASV RC 50 and SC372. The crane goes out 2-3 days a week. Its super useful. Makes some jobs that would be a nightmare a breeze...

Converting a dumper to a chip truck

What Iv,e done 3x now is to buy a flatbed with stake pockets. Then insert c channel in the pockets up the the height you want the body to be. Flat steel up under that, with square tube at the top. On top flat steel across, square tube across above that for strength. Water runs to the sides on...

    Dingo owners question

I have had the same problem. Carefully torque the nut as specified and you will be fine. At first I was trying to cheat and not get the correct socket, big mistake, get the right one and a good torque wrench. Mike

    Fiddle block

If your just pulling over trees you can create a great 3X mechanical advantage system very easily. Tye off the stick using a running bowline at the top of the tree. Attach a steel carabeaner with pulley at ground level using a mid line attachment knot such as a bowline on a bight. Take the...

ford gas bucket truck worth buying??

My Bucket is gas. Works well. Enough power to drive around, slow up hills though. Easy to work on/ fix. Starts easy in the cold. Had it for 8 years, minimal problems. If you havn't run a few booms run a bunch in different conditions so you know what tight and worn out feels like. I prefer High...

    Bucket Truck Overhead

Its more efficient except on very small jobs to bring a chip truck to haul the chipper. This way you can back that in next to the bucket or drive it in front and on the other side of the chip pile to chip the brush. You will waste far to much time on a large removal either stacking brush or...

New Med. Duty Diesel Dump Truck

I just test drove both the ford and dodge 550/5500. Both nice but I liked the dodge better. No idle shut off, less computer stuff. Dodge is built as more of a work truck in my opinion, more steel less chrome. The dodge also has a 2 stage exaust brake which is super too. Cummins engine is the...

Need a chip truck on a budget

Iv'e had good luck buying good used flat bed dumps and building steel chip boxes for them. I would always go look in person though. Too good to be true usually is. Used chip trucks are usually overpriced and beat to hell. I'd rather by a used box truck chassis used to haul potato chips and make...

    New truck question

I used to have a 2000 Mitsubishi Fuso. 6 Speed manual, 175 hp. Steel chip body 11 foot long 6 foot high. I loved the truck, it turned on a dime, pulled my BC1000 Chipper reasonably well, had a good amount of space for chips. Also it was short and fit into small spaces. It had an I box which...

    Stump Grinder Choice

My 372 has about 150 hours. Its about a year and half old. I have been very happy with vermeers equipment, parts and service so I bought it when my 252 was rolled over by an employee and burned to the ground. The Vermeer dealer is close by. Bandit machines look well made too and seem to be a...

    Stump Grinder Choice

4Wd is very nice. Diesel grinders are totally awesome. I would get a 4wd diesel grinder if I had lotsa work to do and the money to buy one to start with. I has a Vermeer 252 with a 25hp gas and it doesn't even come close to the power of the 37 hp diesel on my Vermeer 372. My machine can...

    question for crane owners

Good thread, My insurance guy says if you only do tree work the ins cost is cheaper. This is due to the fact hat there very little value to what is being lifted. In their eyes no value. Mike
