Fixing to burn it! Stihl 025

What Fish said. A lot of running problems with Stihls turn out to be fuel line cracks especially between the carb and tank. Most times, not always, you'll see some fuel residue on top of the tank which is a dead give away. Any leak will also be a source of sucking air instead of fuel.

    upset with Stihl dealers

Could be, Fish does a lot of that. Just that the rest of his post was so dead on I wasn't thinking he may slip one in.

    upset with Stihl dealers

Fish, I like your way, cept for one thing. I never accept tips(bribes) because they will one day expect a favor and I never want to be in a position of feeling like I owe them one. The owners of the shop I work for has a "Rush" policy I absolutly hate. For a 30 dollar fee they will put anyones...

    question for the carb experts.

The lowered pressure in the venturi IS an engine pulse from the same source as the fuel pump side. It arrives in a different manner but comes from the same source, changes in pressure within the crankcase. I under stand what you're saying, I think. At high rpm the diaphragm may not fully close...

    question for the carb experts.

The metering diaphragm is activated by engine pulses, not the inlet needle. Every piston down stroke pushes it out, up strokes suck it back in. Two flexes per rev.

    question for the carb experts.

Most modern 2 cycles rev at least 10,000 rpm. The diphragm flexes twice during each rev (once in, once out)so that's 20,000 flexes per minute. Do the math per second and you'll realize how critical it is that it can work as intended. If in doubt, replace, if not sure and its more then a year...

    Honesty?

Try Billious for Zama. They can be slow but they have Zama and many other parts. They can be slow so be patient if you order from them. "http://billious.com/"

    Honesty?

Some Stihl kits are expensive and some newer ones and any older "Bing" carb kits have to come from Stihl. The Bing carbs are the worst, absolutely no choice but using Stihl and some kits are over 50 bucks, but replacement carbs can be over 100. So don't condem the dealer unless you know for sure.

    Honesty?

No. A number of times I've had new units that upon servicing for sale ran way to lean, especilly Zama's. Teeter totter lever set to low is not uncommon on Zama'a and new carbs come apart without damaging the gasket and diaphragm. When a simple inlet needle lever adjustment is all that is needed...

What's the reason for a rotary carb?

What sedanman said. There is just one fuel nozzle into the throat and the barrel valve carb simply provides better fuel metering throughout the range. Makes it easier for engine makers to tweak everything from performance to emissions. As far as replacing them it depends on a gut feeling when...

    Honesty?

Takes a little longer but I use a exacto knife and tooth brush sized wire brush to clean the pump side ridges. Guess I'm old school, I prefer doing the job right, as I see it anyway. In addition we bag and return removed parts for customer inspection should they want to. Most don't but once in a...

Need help with new EPA problem saws

Need to check on the particular saw but many of the newest batch are coming with much more adjustable friendly carbs. Still have limiters but they are going back to hi/lo adjustability. By switching to a current production carb when available you can minimize your headaches and remain...

    antivibe question

Sure. I've seen them stretched, broken and rusted. However I'd say the spring failure rate is lower based on number of replacement needs. I just fix them so I can't say which works better, except in cars and trucks springs ride smoother then rubber suspension. But, if you rode on steel tires...

    Stihl's future saw technology

Come on now guys. I'm sure those of you who already mod your mufflers are going to find a way around this one as well. Until the smog cops are lurking out in the woods and at the local watering hole you guys will continue to to ignore the laws of the land. Laws legislated or approved by people...

    hot muffler on Stihl ms250c

Did he check the carb inlet needle for proper setting, do a leak down check to see if there was a case leak causing lean running? If not he's not so experienced, is he.

    TS400 Intellicarb?

The intelicarb shouldn't be confused for making any different settings. As lakeside stated, the main diaphragm is vented to the air filter, as the filters clog up, more vacuum is created in the air box. This extra vacuum vented to the backside of the diaphragm limits its ability to fluctuate...

    Stihl Fs 80

Around these parts they're popular with the commercial guys. They good reliable units.

    Quick Stihl 009 question

Yep it filters from the bottom side. A PITA cause the box gets really messy and without compressed air is difficult to clean out. Air enters small slits in the air box below the carb adjustment screw grommets.

    Saw case options

Don't know you sells them but recently I've seen a few saws come into the shop in cases like wooksrider showed except they were in ammo box color. Pretty cool looking.

    My 026 won't spark Suggestions???

Most Stihl products have a lifetime warranty on the ign coil since the mid 90's. Past the regular warranty you do have to pay labor. See a good number of failures on blowers using the slope advance coils but not many other products. The blowers have a problem cause by air flow static...
