Is there a way to attach a pulley system to the top of a 18 meter tree without climbing?

We call it a retrievable block, then Climbers Companion has a very good instruction. Like Gorman I set a rigging line with a throwline, some will use a midline knot to rig it static to the crotch, I usually just fishpole lash it to the base of the tree

    whadja do today?

I had a good bud in the USMC from NJ who got the royal shaft with his ex in court. He was allowed a few weeks a year in visitation, so she would go off to Aruba for a month, drop the daughter off with ol' Brud and his lady, then get 100% of the alimony/child support for the month in the sun...

    Can you prune to good?

As others have said, expectations should be set at time of sale, and the W/O worded to reflect that agreement. Since i work for a number of different clients, I try to ask the HO what they are expecting. Often it is a problem with the salesman not wanting to "waste" time meeting on-site. I...

    Crane loading without chipping

Tag line on the but helps a lot in controlling the load, I know a number of guys who process debris off-site to reduce onsite cost. Sometimes being able to promise a short turn-around gets them the job over those who process on-site. This allows them to not have to low-ball because of...

    Vertical Mulching

There can be some compaction with air tools, but my experience is that it is a very thin layer on harder soils. Mechanical compression is much worse with a drill, shovel or anything one can dig with. Any procedure will have some drawbacks, I've done mechanical, pneumatic and hydro excavation...

    Outraged.

I did not want to be accused of being a pedant again  But if you look at the time written and some of his other works, he was appalled at what industrial "progress" was doing to the land.

    Mulberry discharge

I've had a few stinky gushers like that, usually that is from a hollow where you are cutting below a long water column. It is real fun working the rest of the day, in high heat, with all that stank on you.

    A shaping pines?

Taking such a large portion of a top out of a mature tree sounds sketchy to me, eastern white pine does not compartmentalize well. I've been in a number of them that storms have taken the tops out, and there is always a good sized pocket of decay there. Seen a few I could have dropped trow and...

    Mulberry discharge

Probably a hollow in the branch union that holds water, bacteria growth causes fluid to well out. Many trees will have this, it's generically called Slime Flux. Sometimes alcohol comes from the bacterial discharge, I've seen drunken butterflies and squirrels imbibing the elixir.

    multiple rigging points?

It is not just how much force is put on the tree, but how that force is transferred and distributed. Having a single block places takes the weight down into the spar, if you can put a redirect behind it you shift how the force is applied. Another thing about using multiple points in the tree...

Multiple employees who know how to climb

I still do a tree now and then where I am the only one with any level of skill. I've sub'ed to companies where the labor comes from temp services, pretty much just there to drag from tree to chipper. Been on quite a few where the only other person is the H/O. I'm not so concerned with...

    whadja do today?

picked Mom up at her assisted living apartment, took her to see dad at his memory care facility, pushed him around the halls for a while, went to his room where we watched the end of Dances With Wolves. What a depressing movie.. They did a trepan on him a few weeks ago, had staples running...

    The remembering prectice110 thread.

I was like that too, when in the USMC, could not drink on the job, but we would close the bar then get up for PT at four or five in the am. Some hard living, now adays I get buzzed off of two beers. Had a few buddies who needed a cardiac needle in the ER. Crying shame about ol Matty boy.

    Rope Cleaning/Care

I've used the home wash machine for ropes, but have not done it for a very long time. I just hose them down in a bucket these days, if they get real dirty. Daisy chain them up before putting them in the machine, it works a lot better than just flaking them into the tub.

What to do with a volunteer

We regularly say it takes an exceptional young man to want to start in this business, but then compare the young lady to a the average. Look at those who play ball, or have been in gymnastics all their lives, I could not begin to do what they do; or dancing for that matter. Ballet is a very...
