New member in need of some help...

Don't know right off, but I'd sure turn me a piece of it. Free wood like that can be a lot of fun and just think of the surprises inside that you will uncover when turning. :cool2:

Need black walnut tree removal service that will value the lumber produced, ideas?

We may never know what happened. I agree with what others said about yard trees. I'm a woodturner and I've come across some really weird stuff in wood chunks from trees....bullets, horse shoes, old barbed wire fencing, and the list goes on and on from there.

Very nice. I like them both.

How do I get that "self feeding" back into my chain?

Excellent thread right here. Too bad I still suck at hand sharpening my saw chains. Crooked cuts in the logs and the bar binds in the cut.

The case of the sick old oak

Alright. I hear what y'all are saying. Maybe I was too gullible from the tree dude. I'll get pictures and post them. I'm all about learning and if black ants do not kill trees? Then I'd like to know what does. Besides that, I still have to cut the rest of the trunk down as soon as I figure...

The case of the sick old oak

Well, I finally hired my local tree guy to come out and take down my large Oak that was dieing. It was large black ants that were killing the tree from the bottom up. About the 2nd large limb up the tree was a "nest" of leaves that they found and it was totally FULL of large black ants. Once...

    HIckory Trees dieing

The trees that died in my buddy's yard were on the back side of his property. Nothing back there but more pasture land. Nothing to disturb or fight for nutrients but the pasture grass which has been there since the trees were. If I can find the little buggers in his now sick tree, I'll see if...

    HIckory Trees dieing

Well, one of the trees I cut down for him was eat up on the inside by beetles. Looked like a severe mine field in there. Holes were bored all through the cambium layer and a ton just under the bark. Is there a way to treat for this?

    HIckory Trees dieing

A buddy of mine at work has several hickory trees in his yard. I've already cut down 2 of them that were sick or already dead due to bugs / worms. He came to me this morning saying that another hickory is giving up it's life and is wondering what is causing his trees to die. I thought I'd ask...

Oak Tree is sick and getting worse...

Thanks for the replies everyone. We'll take a better look at this tree when the weather improves a bit and when I'm not doing stuff at the day job.

Oak Tree is sick and getting worse...

Ok, so it's that time of year again when the LOML and I walk our property and inspect our trees to check on new growth and overall health of our plants and trees. Last year, I posted here about an Oak tree on the back side of our property that has pealing bark on 2 sides and just looked...

Type wood for Bowl and spoons???

The DNA encapsulates the water molecules in the wood and aids in getting the water out of the wood faster. I've done DOZENS and dozens of bowls and platters this way without loosing a single one. I tell more about this on my personal web site.

    Best way to stack wood

My granddad taught me how to stack firewood. Said "stack the wood with spaces in it...just big enough for the mouse to get through there, but not big enough for the cat that's chasing the mouse." I have never forgotten that some 40+ years later. He always said....boy, you need to start...
