My Echo BK400 Blower Is "Surging"

I have an Echo BK400 that's been in the family for a long time. It has been great. The last time I used it, it began "surging". I'll be using it wide open and it will act like it's stalling out. This lasts for just a moment, then it runs again. The longer I use it the worse it gets. From...

    Screws In The Breather Hose

Just a follow up. The problem was indeed the gas tank breather vent tube. I'm guessing that over many years, the hard rubber/soft plastic tube degraded and the inside pressed into the threads of the screws. That condition didn't allow air to move past the screws to equalize the pressure in...

    Screws In The Breather Hose

My Stihl 025 hasn't been running well lately. It would start and run for 30 seconds and stop. Then it wouldn't start again until it completely cooled - or so I thought. Two trips to two different small engine shops, and it cut for maybe 10 minutes. Then the same thing, it wouldn't start...

    New Saw Recommendations

I'm replying to an old thread with an update. The saw (Husqavarna 346 XP) died. It seized after cutting a 16" chinaberry tree. It was probably 2 minutes of sustained cutting. I was about 20 minutes into the morning when it died. I carried the saw to the shop, more to find out what happened...

    New Saw Recommendations

I was rereading some old posts and thought I would post a follow up. After several months, the Husky is running great. I think we put up more wood than we ever had before. Most of it was cut with my saw. There is a definite satisfaction when using a quality piece of equipment that runs like...

    String Trimmiers

I looked at a Husky 128LDx yesterday. It has a 28cc motor compared to the 21cc on the Echo. That's the big difference, except the Echo's 5 year warranty. The prices are close. Any thoughts? Thanks, Tom

    String Trimmiers

I'm in the market for a new string trimmer. It's for typical use around the house. I'd use it little more than that from time to time. I'm looking at Echo models because I've heard good things about them. Can someone tell me about the starting mechanisms they advertise? I see they have...

    New Saw Recommendations

As it turns out, I wasn't putting the chain back on properly. I was missing the slots in the drive sprocket (acknowledged that it is not the proper name). The dealer was helpful to show me the oversight that I made. My assessment of the saw was incorrect. I’ll reevaluate after I’ve had a...

    New Saw Recommendations

Well, I just got back from cutting and there's already trouble in paradise. The saw ran great for an hour. I got it pinched in a small branch and threw the chain. Then I couldn't get the chain back on - sorta. I got the chain put back on as it apparently is supposed to be. But the chain...

    New Saw Recommendations

Yes, it has the silver cover. It was new off the shelf. Treepointer, The 025 isn't retired yet. It has a new 18" bar, sprocket and pair chains. And it's running like a scalded dog. I expect it to still pull it's share. Tom

    New Saw Recommendations

Thanks for the info. It helped me choose a new saw. Yea, right. You really just confused me even more. ;-) I went with a Husqvarna 346 XP with a 20" bar. It doesn't have some of the other features, but I can live without those knowing that I got a saw that should serve well for years to...

    New Saw Recommendations

Thanks for the advice guys. There are a couple of models that are suggested that I didn't see as I was browsing. I'm going to drool, I mean look at a few this morning. Tom

    New Saw Recommendations

Todd, thanks but I think I'll stick with a more recent saw.:greenchainsaw: I looked at the 346. It specs out a lot like the saw I have now. Does the 362 get the same rating? Any thoughts on the Stihl MS 390? It's not shown in the pro line of saws but looks like the size I had in mind.

    New Saw Recommendations

At some peril, I'm looking for a recommendation for a new saw. I know there are as many opinions as there are saws out there. But I'm trying to make an informed decision before I buy. I'm going to be cutting firewood for a Civil War reenactment and for myself. With about 5 saws together...

Stihl 025 - Chain Not Turning

It was the brake. I feel silly for not thinking to check something that should be so obvious. Everything went back together and the saw is working properly again. Maybe a bit better after cleaning the inside of the sprocket. Thanks for the help. Tom G.

Stihl 025 - Chain Not Turning

The residue was more like super heated, oil infused, ultra fine sawdust that adhered to inside of the sprocket cup. No metal and no plastic. If I didn't have to work today, I'd run right home and try these fine suggestions. Thanks for the quick replies. Tom G. BTW, I've seen first hand...

Stihl 025 - Chain Not Turning

I've never tripped the brake before so it didn't occur to me to check it. I will tonight and report back. Any thoughts about getting the sprocket back on? Thanks, Tom G.

Stihl 025 - Chain Not Turning

I have a Stihl 025, and am very pleased with it. This past weekend I had the chain to stop turning. I think I shut it down before any real damage occurred. The motor sounds fine and is running quite well. Forgive me if I don't know the correct names of the parts. I removed the chain and...

    Support For Stihl 025

I bought this saw new several+ years ago and it has been very good to me. The only complaints are that I should take care of it better. I'm going to post my questions in a new thread to keep the discussion somewhat focused. I'm a computer weeny and manage a few forums. I appreciate how a...

    Support For Stihl 025

I'm looking for a discussion forum where I can ask questions about repairs to a Stihl 025. Can someone tell me if this is the appropriate place, or maybe suggest one? Thanks, Tom G.
