have you priced having someone do the work for you? I am not sure what kind of money you want to dump into the project, or what you plan to do with the areas after clearing them, but you may spend less to have someone do the work then you would on the head alone. I had a couple of areas done...

I used my 22T brave in the verticale a few times, but I was always chucking the wood out of the way. In the horizontal mode I can just pull the splitter forward 5 feet and let the splits drop on down. Seems like being down on my knees all day was not much fun especially on the cold days.

around here the firewood guys get a bit more for all locust wood. Not sure if your market is the same, but any locust I cut goes into posts for sale($9/8' post this fall) and the rest for firewood. not sure there is easier money than posts with this. I LOVE burning locust on those cold windy...

well mine is not protected, and it blocks the top head light, but most of my work around the farm is daylight work. I purchased about 8 of these at an auction for $40 and have strapped it on with zip ties. I pull it off in the winter when I use it to plow our short driveway.

are sugar maple and rock maple two different species? Around here we have plenty of Silver Maple, but it is not much of a 'choice' wood. Seems to burn quick and go punky if it sticks around for long. The sugar maple is a much better burn, but you don't find much of it around here.
