    Recently installed Fire Chief FC700

I am currently running a Hotblast 1557 - if I had my way/when this one gets to the point to replace it, I am going for a FC700. They are an awesome furnace as I have a couple friends with one, very, very nice add on! Tes

are slow burns a bad idea every night?

For me it doesn't matter, I have an Exhausto RS009 that keeps a constant draft going in my flue. In my Hotblast 1557 I choke the ash door down to a 1/4 turn for long burn times, 2 turns to 2 1/2 turns during normal burn times. Never had any build-up's but with the constant draft from the exhaust...

    Finding Firewood.

Anyone know where in NE Ohio you can get a load of logs? I am looking to possibly do that for next season. Tes

    Scored pretty good today!

That is at least a 20ozer before that thing will be ready to drive :P

Bay area air quality management banned burning on Christmas...

California bans are not because of environmentalists, most people think it so and they are easy to blame. Let them shout and scream about pollution and the climate, mean while behind the scenes energy companies are rubbing their hands gleefully because gas and electricity usage goes up. Follow...

    Lazy people

I have a wife in school fulltime, a 3 1/2 year old and I work 50 - 60 hrs a week with 2 1/2 hour commute each day. My wood supply is 30 minutes south of me, so I am heating with gas and mixture of wood. It all comes down to time, I would love to be one of these guys that has uber time to head in...

    Rules to storm scavenging wood

I am coming late to this thread, but from what you have said you and your employer (friend?) were busy as heck. The objections of BSD are akin to my field, as a Software Developer that rents himself out once in a while, if I discussed with a potential client (and these home owners were potential...

Post ugly or scary stove install pictures.

Confucius say: When Snow White stops putting out the Mason stops working and dwarfs get desperate. Do a dwarf a favor, stop wiping your rear and introduce a stronger smell to the elevator. Tes (I am going to hell...)

When it goes wrong, ALL WRONG!

Dude I am glad you and your child are okay, I have a three-year old myself and I shuddered reading that. You do not need this lesson since you just learnt it (hopefully) but to anyone else listening: Firewood harvesting can be a dangerous business, never, ever, EVER have a child whether with an...

    Anyone Heating Yet

Most of the time I usually wait until around November to begin heating; I will do a test burn and might use some gas heat if it gets to chilly for the family in the house. If I heat to early, my little Hotblast will force us outside. I have about two and a half cords of wood ready for this...

    Am I slow?

About 4 hours I get close to a cord if I am in good spirits that day, else it is more like 3/4 of a cord manual splitting. Really do not have help since my 3 1/2 year old has no concept of staying away from the wood I am cutting/splitting. He helps once I am done splitting, but until then I am...

    Noisy HotBlast Furnace

My 1557 does that, I took a small piece of sheet metal, cut it (very small square) and shoved it between the lip of sheet metal :) Rattle solved. Tes

    wood ash uses

Steel can outside to cool, daily empty into a garbage bag once everything has cooled. I did have an opps a few years ago, I closed the lid on the can, came back in the evening to bag stuff out, still found a hot coal 12 hours later. Ironically was watching an episode of Survivor Man a few hours...

    New years resoultion.

    1) Get back into shape. 2) Get my wood supply setup again for 2011 burning season. 3) Get my Ford Ranger back up and running. 4) Pay off my credit card debt. 5) Spend more time w/ my family (last but not least).

    united states stove company

One thing about these stoves is the learning curve; I swear, you could take a 100 installs in different houses and how you operate your 1557 will be unique to the house it is in. I 100% control with the ash door damper, in fact tried moving the feed door damper the other day with no luck (it...

    united states stove company

I have a 1557M (Or G?) anyway the one you get from TSC. My review: 1) Door damper sucks, does not close down right and I find it useless. 2) I control my fire with the ash door damper. 3) High usage of the wood (in my opinion). 4) Puts out a lot of heat, I have a 2000ish sqr foot...

    Dumest fireplace I've ever seen!

Reminds me of my mother inlaw; she refuses to fill her oil tank for her furnace, in addition the 2 cords of wood I dropped off to her two years ago remains unused (she said she does not have time to haul wood in, she does not work and stays at home all day, spending her husbands money...). So...

US Stove Hotblast is too Finicky

Hey Guys, So here is a question, what would be a good replacement for a Hotblast 1557? I.e. better fuel usage, heat output, durability, quality etc. Thanks, Tes
