    Tying split tail to caribiner

Wait, so your double locking steel rope snaps are safer than a triple locking aluminum snap or biner? The ONLY piece of hardware I've ever had open up on me are the double locking steel and AI rope snaps. Talk about unsafe. Throw those pieces of trash in the garbage if you want to talk about safety.

    remote trip tops

Why didnt you just drop the whole tree if you're going to just bomb the top like that?

    Huge Cottonwood.. How much wood?

More poplars. They are pretty weedy.

    Huge Cottonwood.. How much wood?

Its poplar, most of it will rot before you could even burn it. lol

Fell 30 Feet Out of The Tree Today...

Yeah, I've played with that hitch a few times. Its way too finicky for me, having to grab it after unloading it damn near every time to get it to bite back down. I just hop between a swabisch and distel now. Glad to hear you're ok though, thats pretty damn lucky!

Its bs, obviously a good scare tactic to sell removals though!

    Mulching forever?

Mulch is a trees best friend, keeps away idiots with lawn mowers and weedwhackers. Helps retain moisture and lessens soil compaction, removes competition from turfgrass roots for moisture and oxygen. etc etc etc

    Climbing Line Spliced Eyes?

PI does milk, my 150' is almost a year old now, and after getting into some hundred plus foot trees lately and doing full rope descents I've had it milk out over a foot in just the last month, and like I said this is a rope nearly a year old.

    Rare Grafted Elms

We're in a drought, a few dead limbs here and there in the trees isnt going to be anything to worry about.

    largest ash in Ne

80'? And the largest tree? I'm assuming the thing has a 150' spread on it or something like that?

Some pictures of my Dawn Redwood

Should've expanded the mulch ring instead of just cutting off all the low limbs, ruins what becomes a really awesome trunk on those trees. They do well in these parts, I just climbed a pair of hundred footers a few weeks back, such neat trees. And I've seen similar growth rates with established...

advice on huge wound on maple

Guaranteed thats a branch tear out, anyone who is familiar with red maples has seen that a hundred times over. I like when you get multi-stemmed trunks at the ground, and one day one stem just tips over, no root system to be found.

advice on huge wound on maple

Not uncommon to see that on red maples. Its likely an old tearout where a codominant stem was growing or a large lateral. It will eventually close up, but that decay will still remain, and likely spread to some extent. No guarantees obviously, but if I was to guess it'll heal over and be just...

Will cutting root kill a maple?

We have a fleet of old Stihl 011av's with chains on them that arent any good for the climbing saws anymore, you can usually get 2-3 cuts on them on some big roots before they are totally smoked.

    Rigging knots

Its a cinching knot, yes it will get tight.

    lost my 2nd 192 t

No, its just you. I'd maybe practice on the ground a bit before you go throwing more saws out of the trees.

Stop mismatching your cuts on drops or use a notch, problem solved.

    Topping for removal

I did some lightning systems a few weeks back in a few 100-110' tulips. If I put my hands up I was no more than 8' from the tips on 3-4" stuff. And yes, I was ####ting my pants. :D
