Hardy H2 burn time and Hardy H4 Burn Time

I have the H5 economy (same as an H4) and heat a relatively new 2800 square foot home with very high ceilings. If I fill it and its below freezing out I will get 12 hours out of it no problem. I use a mostly well seasoned hardwood, but sometimes will throw in some semi seasoned stuff depending...

    Hardy Heater Improvement Thread

If this works as he says its a no brainer. He did call me back today but we are playing phone tag. $190 to get 25% better efficiency is a very good investment. I burn 20 face cord a year in my H5 economy (same as the H4 but with an external plate heat exchanger for domestic hot water). I am...

    Hardy Heater Improvement Thread

I left him a vm today. Waiting for a call back. The two items don't look like they should be very expensive. I am hoping they work as advertised.

I will be calling him also. Thanks for the info. Please post the cost for these when you get them. I will do the same. It would be great to talk to someone who has added these mods.

How close to my house can I place my OWB?

Move that thing! It looks like its brand new, so I am assuming you have not gone through a heating season yet. If the wind blows the smoke towards the house, it will be unbearable. Mine is about 150ft away, but I think your safe at 50 ft. Good Luck.

    Think my owb boiled

I boiled mine a few times last year. Just needed to replace the door gasket, and problem solved. I keep it set at 170.

    OWB for Swimming Pool Heater

I should have elaborated more in the beggining. I plan to use this set up only when I fill the pool and when I open it in the spring. Just to get the water from 40 up to 80 degrees. From their I will use the pools pump propane heater. I dont want to feed the dragon all summer long.

    OWB for Swimming Pool Heater

We just put the pool in and this is my current set up. I am going to use a secondary pump on my Hardy OWB to circulate hot water through a 30 plate heat exchanger. The plate heat exchanger has 3/4" fittings. My current plan is to fill the pool by sending the water from the water main (we...

    Propane prices

$1.99 per gallon in western New York. Started the OWB 2 weeks ago when it really started getting cold. No more money for the gas man from me.:greenchainsaw:

    Another OWB water pump Question

I have my pump cycling on and off when the blower turns on. I had a plate heat exchanger at the OWB with a seperate pump. I froze the line on that and ruined the pump and heat exchanger. I am considering running the main pump 24/7 and buying a new heat exchanger and placing it in the...

Wood stove hack-secondary burn tubes added

Excellent job on the modificaiton. Has anyone done this modification to an OWB? I have a Hardy OWB which has a forced air blower that blows air under the fire. So, I already have an opening (no need to cut another). The opening is about 2"x2" so I could easily run a 1" pipe through there. I...

    Jalapeno poppers in the OWB

I cant believe I have never thought of cooking in the OWB. Great idea. I'll be throwing something in there tonight for sure.

    Question about Taco circulator pumps

I think some of the variations in pricing people are seeing must be between the Taco bronze and cast iron pumps. PEX supply sells the entire Taco 007 cast iron pump for around $60. The bronze version of the 007 is around $200. I recently had a Taco 007 bronze pump fail, and I replaced the...

    Truck load of logs, NY?????

I live half way between Rochester and Buffalo NY and just got a log load of hard maple for $750. It is between 6 and 7 full cord. This seems to be the going rate in this part of NY. I have seen it as high as $850.

    Owb - Backdraft Danger !!!!!

My Hardy has an ash door. As long as you always open the ash door first you are good. I only forgot once. Only once!!!!! Scared the heck out of me.

OWB in a shed - how to vent the smoke

Thanks for all of the ideas. I currently open the ash door, go out to the woodpile and throw a few logs into the shed while the smoke vents out of the OWB. This does a good job of getting a lot of the smoke out, but it takes a while to load that big Hardy and by the end the shed is pretty full...

OWB in a shed - how to vent the smoke

Does anyone have an outdoor boiler in a shed? I have mine in a steel shed, but the smoke when loading the stove is tough to deal with. Anyone have any good ideas? Any pictures of your setups?
