Are plastic clamshell saws worth pimping out ?

Although I have been in tree service work since 1991 I don’t spend much time on this site…often have too much on my plate. So what is meant by clamshell plastic saws? Since 1991 I’ve had two Poulans, I have had six Echo was, seven Stihls, one Jonsered, two Tanaka limbing saws, one McCulloch 610...

    Is this mulberry?

Find leaves around the trunk (base) and match to a tree identifier book. We always start the ID task with leaves, then winter twig formation, then flower or catkin in the springtime, then fruit or nut pod in the fall and lastly the bark. The bark is like a dog…you can’t tell what the dog is...

    root strangling trunk?

I second the motion of this post…If the tree is generally healthy do not cut the root. Find something else to worry about. About 20 years ago a client asked me to remove a tire which a Bartlett pear tree had been set in a pasture fence row to grow through. I over-studied it and made several...

Fallen Branch Stuck On Both Ends - Help

Caution: do not work this in a boat. Your footing must be steady. The single pic is hard to conceive of a reliable work surface. Could a mini-excavator with a bucket & thumb reach it. Could a boom crane truck be used to lift or support the heavy wood while extension pole saws would be used to...

    Removing invasives/pulling up by roots

Even if you mow clean and spray herbicide, the process to convert wild forest to a lawn takes many hours and equipment applications.

    Removing invasives/pulling up by roots

Your desired end result should be the guide for how you clear the site. A skid steer with a forestry mulcher will make mince meat of all vegetation. OTOH if you want to use the tractor, have a helper on the ground. You could use your N9 tractor, swing chain and a welded metal hoop over there...

Really really really want a tractor

General experience of searching…I almost bought one in May ‘19, backed off, glad I did, pandemic continued, glad I backed out. My doctor farms raising hay and livestock. Last week we talked about tractors and he said as soon as a tractor buyer thinks he knows the size he would need, he would...

    whadja do today?

That is so well said. Yet. the land in between is sort of a no-man's land and few will go there. I need to read that over again and sleep on it.

    Codominate Removal Technique

If the subject tree is on a small property, as many homes are in the northeast, a tree will have to be pieced down to save damage to property. On my way to TCIA in 2010 in Pittsburgh, on Amtrak, I noticed how small the yards are.

Would a company ever hire someone too....?

BTW keep good but brief written records of every customer's work you do and every machine you work on. Not all customers are worthy people and worth the trouble to keep old machines in operating condition. I have been in customer service work for 62 years and I still keep notes.

Would a company ever hire someone too....?

One of the best books for finding the opportunity is WHAT COLOR is Your Parachute? The 2021 edition is on Amazon and other booksellers. Over 10 million have sold. It costs about $17.00. Be sure to work the first diagram spot on and save your notes to file...you'll be glad you did and glad you...

Would a company ever hire someone too....?

The concept first deserves a study of demand and supply in the small engine market. Protect yourself from making an investment which turns to a loss. Talk to área business leaders like Chamber of Comm., newspaper advertising sales reps, college or associates college or even Voc-tech instructors...

    Jonsered Chainsaws

In 2015 I tried rebuilding carpet sweepers. Many people have no idea of how to maintain a vacuum. On a bench labor price of $45 an hour I could not cover that and parts costs so I failed. I have four vacs that need to be completed. it was fun to try.

    Black Walnut Logs

Back in 1993 my tree work mentor a certified Florida forester and member of NAA now TCIA taught me about BW logs for mills. You must get a 9volt Lumber Wizard to scan the trunks for metal objects. Any metal found must be removed but then that might destroy the wood for consist as a veneer. Then...
