    Unoxygented blood......Need info

Suspension Trauma There is some new information out about suspension trauma (or harness hang syndrome or harness induced pathology or orthostatic intolerance). An earlier poster cited OSHA and another cited HSE, the British equivalent of OSHA. HSE did a great summary of suspension trauma and...

Big Hickory blow down means pull out 090 & 056

Saws held high OK, I'll ask the stupid question. Can someone explain to this howmeowner why it is dangerous to saw that high? I'll take your word for it but it's easier to remember if I know the "Why" of it.

Big saws in the wood Videos!!!

Thin cookies Hey Wildman, I'm really impressed at the consistently thin cookies. I can't make cuts that straight in the middle of a log and you're doing it for all to see. Part of the time it looks like you can see the bar through the wood. Your chain must be really evenly sharpened.

Man Suffocates after dead palm fronds slide down over him. Cali, 8/03

Trimming Washingtonia There are several descriptions further back in this thread. The basic message is to do them from above and not below. The fronds stick at lower levels but get loose above 35' or so. So if you trim from below you can loosen all the underpinnings and then have a mass of...

SRT in Palms So I'm learning as I go here. I have a pretty strong background in SRT from caving/SAR but I am having to learn new terms for arborist activities. If I understand correctly you're putting a line over the tree, anchoring an end of it then climbing the other to reach the top...

Trimming Washingtonia I'm just a homeowner who likes saws. This palm tree thing is an academic interest of mine, related to the suspension trauma mentioned above. Seems obvious (now, not a week ago) that using a lift to trim these from above is the way to go. Are there alternatives that are...

Man Suffocates after dead palm fronds slide down over him. Cali, 8/03

Palm tree death incidents I'm trying to write an article about this for a journal. I'd like to summarize as many cases as possible. Google came up with a number of newspaper articles. Talking to the coroners in two counties around here their respone was along the lines of "Happens all the...

    Grape vines

Layering If you want another one near an existing vine you can make another one by a technique called layering. In the fall/winter, take a long cane that you might otherwise prune away and stick it in the ground, still connected to the source vine. If it's long enough put a bend in the ground...

Sides Depends on how windy and rainy it is there. Most of it will be fine anyway. If you cover the stuff on the edges I doubt you need to enclose.
