    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

Bad news. I'm signing out of this forum. Have had a medical incident and am basically blind. Hopefully one day I can rejoin the forum as I have enjoyed chatting with you. Do not reply to this message as I cannot read them. This message was input by my sister on my behalf.

What they don't undersand is that the AF15 style rifle hey buy over the counter is no one wit more lethal tha a standard hunting rifle. The only accurate description that would suit them is "painted black and is ugly"

Bringing up an old issue. When you split a rick, rack, pile, whatever of wood you will come out with a larger, not smaller measure. I know, look at all those big holes. But your new stack has more volume in those all those small holes,. every time you split a pieced you increase the square...

I'm on a shopping spree in the morning. Will hit WallMart and see if I can find a new desktop 'puter at a reasonable price. Totally frustrated, Take picture, download to the 'puter and then cann't find the pictures. My "scrounge of the century" turned into dust. Finally got him on the phone...

I cut a lot of Willow. Cows will come at a full run to get to the leaves even though they have been feeding in knee deep green grass.

Scrounge of the century!! The guy who rents the pasture where I am cutting the willow bush told me he has some logs I can have. I drove out to look at them today. My God!!!! Looks like almost 1/2 acre covered in logs neatly lined up in rows, single layer. . Eyeball says most around a 20"...

The last year I was on the farm (1953) we put up about 6ton of hay in a stack Up on the ridge. Came time to feed it and there wasn't a scrap left. We suspected elk had a hand in that.

Back on the farm we had an old single shot 30-30/ Hunting season out working the ground we carried on the tractor. You could work it almost up to them and shoot from the seat. Don't try to get off it though, they would leave.

Looking for ideas on processing 2-3" sticks

That is the method I used. Made square Us out of angle iron width inside just under the reach of a 20" bar, height about 1.5'. set 2x6's on edge and fastened the Us spaced 16" apart (or whatever length you want to cut. Fill with limbwood then walk down the jig slicing halfway BETWEEN the...

It is all in the market and the species available. Down here "good wood" is considered to be Fir. I have been selling around 10 cord a year of WILLOW!!!! Nothing else of any abundance around here. I geet $120 cord and should have raised it to 175 (red fir is running from 400 down to 250). I...

I made a wire hook, attached it to a hot pad and hung it on the stove door. That handle used to have a wooden cover on it, replaced that once and haven't bothered to do that again.

It only takes a few shreds to really flavor up a batch of cookies. I made a mistake when I first bought this place with 1 acre, planted windbreaks of Spruce and about a dozen Black Walnuts. Haven't bothered to use the nuts yet and am about ready to delete all of them. Mowing around them is...

I've been using them that way for some 30 years without a problem....except for forgetting to check oil in one and....um ....other stupidities.
