    Replace or rebuild 026 carb?

I had quite a spell of CAD the past month or so, and I ended up with some very nice saws. Along with the runners were a couple of 026s I can't start. Both will run for a second with a cc of mix squirted into the carb, but they don't stay running. Both were supposedly runners, but, oh well. I...

What is your favorite source of aftermarket parts for old Stihls?

Good morning. Hope this finds y'all doing well. I seem to have relapsed a bit on my CAD, and I now have some more nice old "0" series saws. I'd post a list in my sig, but I like the links to the now pictureless threads from another era, two of which I hope to replenish the images one of these...

Opinions on Forester chain compared to Stihl

Good morning gents, I happened upon an article comparing chains, and they like Oregon better than Stihl for homeowner use in softwood, which I figure the homeowner would need to be good with a file on mild steel. I found their choice of full chisel chain was Forester. They claim it's hard and...

    Husky 372 still being sold?

Howdy. I must have been influenced by the antistihl, this being the end times and all . I see TreeStuff selling 372s on their site. I thought that saw was no longer being produced. Is it now less of a screamer than it used to be?

    Fuel injected Chainsaw

So today I pulled the trigger and got a new Stihl 500i. It came with a 25" bar. I chose the regular bar, as the light one didn't feel perceptibly different, not a hundred dollars difference worth, anyway. Also got two of those new hex grind chains. Dealer said they are really easy to sharpen...

    slant fin 044 jug on a 440?

Has anyone done this, put an early 044 jug on a newer 440? I think the stroke is the same, but I suspect there are more factors to consider. I'd rather learn by asking than by trial and error, it being cheaper that way... Thanks, gents.

    044 or 440?

Well, I suppose this is a good dilemma to have. I get to choose between a relatively low hour 044 and a 440 with about two tanks through it. They look identical except for the compression release and the flippy caps, which I’ve replaced with an aftermarket twist cap. I’m keeping one of them, as...

    OEM in a counterfeit world?

Howdy folks. Been a long time since I've participated here. Glad the forum is still around. I was looking up Stihl seal pullers, having bought one a couple of years ago on the big auction site. Now I see the Chicom brigade has duplicated the OEM, and they look very similar the one I have. My...

MS251C tank or low usage parts saw

Howdy folks, Long time. Hope everyone is well. I have a buddy with a MS251C that sustained an impact, got hit by a trailer in the woods I think, and the tank is broken. He says it stihl runs fine, not much use on it, and he'd like to either find an intact tank or someone who wants a good parts...

    The mighty Ash lives!

Howdy howdy. Long time since I've been on here. We just moved to New Hampshire, and our old farmstead has a pair of ash trees older than I by a long stretch. They are still alive, and the larger one is almost OK! 4.5 feet dbh. I'm too busy to post pics from my phone, but I'll get them up soon...

    Retro fit a decomp?

Well, I aggravated my bruised sternum last week, which derailed my recovery and return to work, something which definitely gets my attention. What was I doing? Starting an 064. The elasto handle needs replaced, but I'd really like to figure out if this saw (and the 056 mag 2) can be retrofitted...

    Next Step in Equipment Acquisition

Good afternoon! I have been active in the tree business for three months now, and I have partnered with a man half my age with far more experience than I, with his own tree service. We've been busier than a pair of one-armed jugglers, and it seems a dump trailer and chipper are warranted, far...

    ASI line clearance regs?

Howdy. I finally decided to combine my two favorite hobbies, climbing and cutting wood. I have insurance and climbing gear that I like (the zigzag and its little brother are awesome), and have applied for my city tree trimming license. I do NOT plan to put myself in a situational bind, so am...

    Old Timey 064?

I just got a surprisingly little-used 064 today, and I noticed it had a metal air filter cover, under which is a flocked metal screen air filter. This one is stihl useable, but I imagine it does not handle air as well as the later HD setup. I now have two IPLs printed 16 years apart, and it...

    Plastic Repair- Air Filter Cover

So, I should have taken more pictures as I went along, but I picked up an eBay 038 that had ridden around in a skidder and gotten beat up a bit. I threw the AF cover in the carb cleaner, and took some JB PlasticWeld, some wide plastic tape, and a bit of time, to produce this so far:

Is deleting the base gasket generally a safe mod?

for a modern Stihl pro saw? I am leery of the grinding, especially enlarging port openings and disrupting the nikasil cylinder liner. But in general is it safe to just drop the gasket, or does that run a risk of not enough squish room? I've been messing with saws a while, but I'm not much of a...
