    can of worms in hawaii

Dont know how these things handle a swept trunk. Cant believe the climbers dont use saddles with safeties. Not descending on a retrievable line seems a huge energy waster.

whadja shoot and whadja hit? Nobodys gona tell your neighbors. Bigshot confessions.

Frozen dog poop season is almost here. Come spring, friends and neighbors will have questions about big birds in the area. "What else coulda made that mess on the roof?"

    Woodworm in Spalted Maple

I mix about 2.5 cups Borax to 1gal boiling hot water. Hotter the water, better the Borax dissolves and suspends. Apply on dry, unfinished wood, wait for it to soak in until almost dry then spray again. When larvae inside wood become active (warmup + dry after cold damp winter is a big trigger)...

What causes a tree to barber chair

The concept is simple, but as with all tree work, consequences for some details not addressed are dangerous. 372 would be excellent for the job. Depending on species, 455 may be a little slow/weak with bar fully buried. Small bites like whats possible with T method would be smart way to go on...

What causes a tree to barber chair

Many variables from tree to tree and different situations. Someone looking over your shoulder can point them out better than clowns like me on the internet. RPM and angle at start of bore, placement of cut as dictated by ground / hazards, and body position should ideally be observed. Boring...

What causes a tree to barber chair

Mismatched cuts in the face can cause chairs, especially if coupled with prone species (ie. boxelder), heavy head lean, side lean, structural weakness (crack or rot), weight, wind, etc. As tree falls, the kerfs of the mismatch close and its as if there is no face removed at all. Borecutting...

Chainsaw gaiters Um,.. trip hazard? Royal freakin trip hazard!

    Critique my stump?

Nice. Soon you'll feel the bar drop square into undercut kerf. Those little guys can be tricky especially when ya gotta drive wedges. 15 - 18" are good size for learning and experimenting. Hope ya got a proper axe and not just that hatchet I saw in the first pic. Setting an insurance wedge can...

Trying to rehabilitate a fallen tree

If ya like the looks of it you can save it. Show a pic at distance and maybe more will agree it looks cool. With a mulch bed, edging and a couple plants,.. might look great. You need to do a search for "tree support systems" and "propping." I learned about it in theory but have never installed...

    Critique my stump?

Huskstihl made a the call. When tree falls to its face, mismatched kerfs (especially if across the whole face) close quickly and its as if there was no face at all. Great potential for barberchair. If that tree had a stretch of rot, old crack or was of a brittle species, BANG! Mind Huskstihls...

    Is this a safe/accepted technique?

Surprised its a photo showing "above shoulder use." (very close if not quite) Company lawyers are probably not happy.

    Is this a safe/accepted technique?

I have a habit of uncurling and wiggling my fingers to avoid a cramp in my hand. (Plus a healed broken finger that gets stiff) I'm scared for the digits. In rain, a slip could cause a nasty mangle.

    Fiddle block

If ya go cheap on double pulleys, and plan on working it hard, go for steel side plates and go big on everything. Big sheaves ( think 4"or more) for best bend radius. 5/8" rope capacity so ya can use old rigline as well as smaller dia. climbline thats past its prime. Remember, WLL, on the cheap...

    Fiddle block

On ground I use an old school HD steel block &tackle set I found in the barn. HEAVY, and mind you, not chi-com junk. Up high and for light duty, 5/8 capacity 3" aluminum double pulleys I bought from Wesspur for $21 each. I think they're climb rights. Of course Wesspur doesn't have them anymore...

    NYS rough cut codes intensifying

Thats right. Gotta remember the loony left power in this state also. We shouldn't be cutting down innocent trees anyway. All of thier homes were built with rainbows and unicorn poop. Thanks for cluing us in on this 4x4. My Buffalo News newspaper is too busy reporting fluff to inform us on what...

    NYS rough cut codes intensifying

This is probably intended to slap down the Amish. The low cost lumber they produce is one thing, but their advantage in associated construction costs and labor is no doubt felt. Last 10 years, approximately half of the garages, garden sheds and barns built in my neck of the woods have been Amish...

Wow! Umm,.. wow! Pro cat rescuers, and they thought climbing to the cats limb was enough? Government funded? Figures.
