What causes the piston to fall apart?

I just looked at my email and found this old thread was dug up. The update to this thread is that I rebuilt both machines and sold the ebz8001 with new crank/rod and complete piston kit. I went through about half tank of fuel before I sold it to make sure it was all good. It sold for enough...

    Ms-210c

I know it's not a pro saw but it's not that bad looking. I don't see much damage on the intake side of piston but still have not pulled the muffler. Hope exhaust side looks like the intake side. I do remember seeing dust down the carb all the way up to piston, that's when I flushed it with...

    Ms-210c

Here's the update so far with this saw. I still have it as it will be a good saw for my 9 year old to learn on. I was able to run about a tankfull through it since purchase, but now it has sat for a while and cannot get it started anymore. It is possible that the previous owner overdosed it...

    Troy-Bilt 27-Ton 160cc Log Splitter from Lowes

I've only split about 3 cords since rebuild and still have not had a use for a 4 way. What I really need is a nice table on motor side instead of those bendy cradles. Maybe after making a table it will be easier to hold the bigger logs and I may find a use for the 4 way. But then I'll...

How do you Answer "Can I borrow your Chainsaw?"

If it ever comes to that, I'll say I just ran out of the stihl ultra and I don't use anything else. I have to buy a whole pack where I get it since they are not sold seperately and don't need to buy any until next month or year. Oh yeah I also ran out of STIHL bar oil that I will have to pick...

Do our chainsaws pollute more than a full-sized pickup?

Is this thread going to lead to many straight gassed 2 strokes in the end? Or straight ethanoled?

    16" bar on a ms361?

I guess a new one would have been just $80 more plus tax but still would not be a 029S:biggrin:

    16" bar on a ms361?

Saw was in very good shape and I probably got a bite from someone who was on fleabay trying to score one and finally gave up when the nice ones were always going well over 300 w/shipping. Funny thing is I had it listed for 290 two guys drove down sunk that new 18" bar/chain into some oak and...

    16" bar on a ms361?

I checked ebay this past summer for completed listings and they were selling over 300 shipped so I listed my 029Super on craigs for local pickup only and it sold for 290 as in M$290 Depends on the area but Ebay will get you the most but comes with the shipping woes. BTW, what is the 290...

What 18" chain is best for a 361?

I'll try it out first with the RSC and need be I'll swing by to get another. This dealer is only about 4 miles from me so I could always swing by when I'm in the area if I see I can use another backup.

    16" bar on a ms361?

I really only need and should just keep the 16,18,25" saws but kinda attached to that 390 since it was purchased from original owner in like new condition and was my best/newest saw that helped start my cad problem. At least my cad problem has slowed down and I did get rid of a couple for now.

    Chain saw stolen

I like the draining the oil idea. Or go steal some stuff from the officers, get caught on camera and go sell it out of state to someone with security cameras.

    16" bar on a ms361?

And here I thought I was running the shortest bar of anyone with a 361. Definately keeps a little weight off and if you don't need to cut anything that requires a bigger bar than stick to it. I like mine where it's at, 18". If my 390 wasn't in near mint condition I would part with it and run a...

What 18" chain is best for a 361?

I'll be picking up a 33RSC-66 later today from my local dealer. It's $2 more than one shipped from fleabay but I'll have it ready for cutting today or tomorrow. Thanks for all the tips. And the idea of using the safety chain for the dirty stuff sounds good.

rock and a hard place which stihl

Is there a big difference between a 260 and a 261? If not I would go 362. Unless you plan on selling the 260 to get a 261. Have never used either to know anything about them. I'm getting my 361 ready to cut a couple cords worth and will be my first time taking it out that long so can't...

    50:1 vs 40:1?

Agreed, I would put the oil in and then pull cord gently, without plug, a few times and a few times more. Then I would replace the plug and pull to start and it did start so I thought that it ran on the oil alone since I had carb off for a few days at a time before reinstalling and it ran with...

    50:1 vs 40:1?

I would just inject about two tablespoons of oil into plug after I replaced the piston on the few saws I did, pulled a couple times and saws would run and smoke badly for a few secs. I guess I never thought that maybe the carb would have a drop or two left to throw in. I think I have a carb...

    50:1 vs 40:1?

I don't want to question this but I would think that oil also burns just like the fuel that it's mixed into, but just leaves some residue behind after burned. I've had saws start on straight oil no gas so I don't want to say that a saw runs leaner with more oil in the mix since the same amount...

Cylinder base sealant, expensive Stihl silicone or hi temp red RTV ??

From the Permatex line, the only one that I found to be gasoline proof and heat proof was the Permatex MotoSeal. I only was able to find the Ultra Grey locally so decided to get the MotoSeal instead that is labeled as gasoline and heat proof and odered it on Fleebay. It's a grey sealant and...

    50:1 vs 40:1?

I would use 50:1 if I used synthetic oil but I'm always getting those regular 2.5 gallon mix orange stihl bottles and empty one into a two gallon fuel container and use premium fuel to mix, comes out to 40.214235:1 or close to it:hmm3grin2orange: I use this mix on everything that calls for 50:1...
