Today's update: tried new gasket and diaphragm on pump side. Better, but still a leak. Went back to old days, work grease into the gasket (not diaphragm). Not slobbering it on, working it in to help seal (old racer and mechanic tip). No more leak. Will it hold? Time will tell. Will get some gas...

Help MS 311 won't run right after rebuild

So you have now performed the basic testing required for confirming a motor has no issues that would cause it to run poorly. This is exactly what a Stihl diagnosis chart (and any other 2 stroke manufacturer that provides one) is for. Now you get a carburetor and fix the saw. Fixing carburetors...

STIHL IS REDESIGNING ALL OF THEIR BARS! NEVER SEEN NEW SAWS!

You either like change or you don't. I try to embrace it as somebody is going to make money off repairing it. Might as well get my share. Guy buys a 170. Cuts two limbs off and puts in on the shelf for a year (or more). Brings it in to the shop, won't start. Pull on it many times, no fuel...

Stihl MS200 - cause and effect - what caused this?

The saw ALWAYS has good fuel in it when it comes to the shop. Hard to get some people to own up. You got great advice here. Go to it and give us an update. Always remember- THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING US!:surprised3:

Help MS 311 won't run right after rebuild

Does fuel push out of the fuel line when you remove it from the carburetor? Had this happen twice lately that the fuel hose and or filter were plugged. Usually an A/M hose, but anything is possible. If all good, possible stuck high jet nozzle in carburetor. I apologize if this is a rerun. New...

    Stihl MS362 owners

I have seen it both ways, but never lost a saw to it. Biggest issue was getting the filter in correctly. For every one that may have had an issue, 20 or more did not. Is the round filter better? Yes, as it is easier to install. Have I ever converted one. No. Proper installation cured the issue...

What's the big deal with the big dogs?

The only problem I have with saw dogs is the homeowner/ farmer cutting firewood and uses them to hog in a dull chain. You know the scenario- the bar is worn half way through within 6 inches of the motor and the chain won't feed at all. Felling trees and cutting logs in the hand of a pro that...

    2 stroke testing equipment.

I (we all do) get the repair order that says"It don't run right". Some are Left hand saws  I try to call the customer to get more info. We cherish the customer that will actually talk long enough to give us symptoms. It not only decreases diagnosis time, it shows us a customer that will...

Fun story: Stihl 026 won't run with wrong carb

I say if you buy chinese carburetors, get at least 2. One of them MIGHT work. This is from experience at the shop. We no longer try aftermarket carburetors.

I am pretty flexible at work. This being a new commercial account, I will work with them. So today I tried the new inlet needle. No leak at the needle. BUT, the pump side gasket leaks like a sieve. Gasket looks good too. It may be a few days before I get back to it. It looks like a K2 AT kit...

So survey says- put it back together and try a new inlet needle only. Can't hurt. Can't replace the carb without a program from Husqvarna anyways.

    MS261cm Ignition module

I don't see a pressure and vacuum test listed. As far as spark, yes, you must spin it quite fast. I would also use a spark tester or a plug with a WIDE gap. It seems we are running circles around the carburetor. Has a pressure test been done on it? Does the inlet needle leak? Is the lever set...

First a correction. T540 XP 2 is the model. That's what I get for not taking a pic before I go home. Carburetor leaking at needle. Vacuum and pressure test OK. Some wear on piston skirt. Machine marks on top half. New carb and piston called for BUT, price wise over half the price of a new unit...

036 carb/ intake boot air leak

Yup, no longer in price book. Epa gets another one.

    Replace or rebuild 026 carb?

If you buy an aftermarket carburetor, buy at least two. One of them MIGHT work. (From shop experience).

036 carb/ intake boot air leak

Boot not available. Guess I need to check that out. Was last I knew. We do seem to be losing part quite a bit lately. Stihl isn't the only one. Tried a part for a cutoff saw with Husqvarna. NLA

Sold Partner S65 chain tightens by itself

Sprocket wear, bent chain, buggered driver. Moving ahead when tightening is usually a bent tightener peg or screw. Also a bar roller nose may get tight when the chain is on only.

I don't mod as a rule. Besides I may be doing 15 for this tree service. Just running correctly will be the ticket. Unless it is an 026 pro with low adjustment only. Muffler mod is the cure.
