    Uses for saw dust

Just bought 5 acres of hunting property and been researching a Sawdust toilet. But gotta have a compost heap for it to be disposable.

Stihl 039 New Short block break-in

Loaned the saw to a buddy and it came back with the cylinder burnt up, chain installed backwards, and looks like they been cutting concrete. I just installed the short block today. Weird design with the bar bolt into the block. How do I break-in a new cylinder? Not much luck on a search.

    Stihl 390-Bailey's Short Block rebuild

Now you tell me thread size. I ordered this kit about a month ago (So cheap - i'm thinking about making bikes with 'em) for a 039 and just installed today. Hence the search tonight. I went to ACE to match up and the metric didn't seem to fit as well as the 3/8" fine thread (I think...

Well used Stihl 880 vs New Stihl 660

Thanks for the help guys. The only use I will have for the saw is milling, no felling. I'm sure I'll never mill a log big enough to warrant the bigger saw. Probably why the fella is trying to get rid of it. He did tell me the weight deters him from using it more than he does.

    Pro Mac 610

I picked this up a the the flea for 35 bucks. They said it was running but just stopped. I emptied the fuel, checked fuel line, checked compression (150). Added new fuel, hit with seafoam and fired right up. Doesn't even need a carb adjustment. Now trying to decide if I tell the guy at the...

McCulloch Pro Mac 650 Carb settings

My handy dandy service manual says it has a Walbro HDB carb. Start at 1 turn from seat and fine tune from that.

Helped my friend with firewood today.

I'll tell you what. I got a meet Saturday already planned. It is for a slightly different hobby,(knifemaking/blacksmithing) but your welcome to come on down and enjoy a little BS. Might even be able to get a BIG poplar if your interested. We just gotta share some wood for the sweet old...

What do you guys use to carry small amounts of premix?

I just thought of a cool idea I'm gonna try out. The aluminum beer bottles with an expanding rubber stopper. I wonder if the gas will eat that rubber. One way to find out.

Helped my friend with firewood today.

I misunderstood. I thought you were saying he only used heat twice. I get it was the furnace only twice. I understand those costs. Mine are over $300. Thats why I got the woodstove and I hope to set it up with an intake to the ducting as well. I'm in Douglasville. I browse CL for milling...

    Horror in the Garage

Frazier Park eh? I spent a godforsaken year-and-a-half at Edwards a lifetime ago. Harley's and chainsaws are better than the 20" lawnmower I had back then. Nice saw brother.

Helped my friend with firewood today.

So you're the dirty competition...Just kidding. Cumming too far to drive for firewood. Now milling logs are a different story How he get away with only two? Been pretty cold this year. I just got a wood stove for the garage so will be working on a pile this year. NIce haul.

How to fix a broken-running Homelite

Wire tying circumvents the bar brake. Good or bad, not a proper fix. The band is replaceable. I took it out just to see.

    Chain Cutter Glint

Hotdamn I need one of those self milling saws! That fridge looks like mine. Cep'n all the bottles. Cans recycle much more profitably :) OK. Time to look up the holiday thread. Very nice pics by the way.

How to fix a broken-running Homelite

Funny thing happened yesterday. My neighbor called me to see if I could look at his dads saw. It's the first saw anyone has ever asked me to work on that actually runs. WOW! The chain brake is not releasing all the way. If you manually pull the brake handle back it will allow the clutch to...

    028 choke lever question

I had the same problem on one I just got. The contact spring that acts as a lock and kill switch would not allow the switch to move into the choke position. I tried to adjust it, but wound up replacing it.

Lifting the end of a log with a jack

http://www.arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=68641 Here is the lift I use. I have since converted to a cable winch (come-along) instead of the mechanical lever. Made it a one man tool. I have used it several times and have dead lifted more than 1000 pounds with it. The only change I would...

    planing large slabs

Here's a video I have of someone actually planing a LARGE slab. It is a bit difficult to set up flat, but is a cheap solution to do the actual work of planing large slabs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t51SSP12Gk8

Almost lost two logs -- log arch?

I wish I could afford one of the cranes like in the previous post. I posted my log lift a while back, and it still works well. http://www.arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=68641
