Titan 45a with low compression otherwise in great condition. Great spark. Chain cutters are at the end of their life but might be good for an exhibition cut every now and then. Cool saw but it’s time to let someone else enjoy it. $275 shipped. It’s a gamble on my part but I will cover...
Ported by Terry Landrum. Bought from a forum member when it was nearly new yet. Updated to el48 carb and runs great. Saw comes with extra 3/4 wrap handle, 24” GB b/c, new inner and outer OE spikes (not installed yet in photos), and the extra modded muffler. I currently have a stock muffler...
I've seen heated wrap handles on eBay so that's an option if you can at least find a regular "H" model.
I get a little annoyed whenever someone asks about the availability of a heated handle saw and every warm climate gomer chimes in about gloves but I guess that's the nature of these forums.
I know you said that ACE is your only dealer in town but I've noticed that every ACE and John Deere shop is way over priced and in their own world compared to an honest to god saw shop. Loops of 72dl chain for 30, jug of Stihl branded bar oil for 20...
Sorry to hear about Scott, hope he's on the mend. Seriously is there anyone who is a finer saw mechanic and porter out there?...doubt it. Haven't cut a stick of firewood all winter and have been meaning to stop at the shop this spring to get some things. Kudos to everyone who has donated...I...
Hard to say, I'm guessing the guy is a collector himself and knows how rare they are. As a younger guy I just like to see these older saws as they were before the woods took their toll since I never saw them in the dealerships. Putting a value on clean old saws is tough that's for sure.
I'm swamped with work at the shop but if I get caught up in the next week or so and these saws are still available I'll arrange with the seller to see if I can check them out in person.
Too rich for my blood but I'm drooling over it at any rate. I'd love to know the story on it, looks like a shelf queen some dealer decided to hang onto...or like someone else said a saw built from parts. Hell, I've never even seen a picture of a 90 that was that clean!
Maybe...good saws but a lot of parts aren't available anymore (the problem we all have keeping these old saws going). Very smooth and torquey. I enjoy running mine once and a while to keep it in good shape even though I never cared for the goofy half wrap ergos.
Never ran any older Pioneers or Poulans...based on the older side of the spectrum and my limited firsthand experience I'd have to say the Stihl 041av and Jonsereds 621, 52e, 70e are really good saws both today and when they were the latest in saw technology.
From what I've seen these new 2260's are a nightmare to work on so value wise I wouldn't think the standard 200-300 is really out of line. Also, who's to know what fuel has been ran through it and how much grit has been getting past the ****** air filter these things run? Base cut is sloppy...
If all you do is cut cookies with ported new saws you'll be disappointed but I like those old Stihls. Torquey and smooth is how I'd describe them. When it quits running that's a different story. Parts and service from a Stihl shop is gonna be tough so enjoy it while it runs and consider it as...
The quality of engineering and craftsmanship that went into those all metal Jonsereds is second to none in my opinion. Almost never see a 49, 52e, 70e with any physical damage other than bent wrap handles so that's a hell of a testament in my view.
