    chimney sweep log

I used one of those once. It scared the hell out of me. It burned sooooo hot. I will never do that again. I wasn't trying to substitute brushing, I have a set and use them every year, I just figured I would give one a try for maintenance during the season. Never again.

Insert or woodburning stove with outside air draw?

Yep. I got the same insert and get the same burn time. Someone (the wife- she's a light sleeper) has to get up in the night and throw on another log if you want hot coals in the morning.

How often do you clean your chimney

Lopi insert, clean once a year right before I start burning for the season. In fact, I just did it today. Supposed to get cold tomorrow, so time to crank er up.

    All Around Best Firewood

As far as ease of cutting and splitting- ash. Burning wise- Ironwood (blue beech). Absolutley no fun to cut or split, but man does that stuff burn forever.

is this maple, but what kind.

yup, that's silver maple. I have a huge tree in front yard that I just had trimmed up. Had a tree service come in and take 2 big limbs off (one went over my house and one went over the neighbors cars) and some smaller ones just to lighten up the canopy. I had them chip the brush and leave me...

What time of the year to cut the trees ?

I just cut all day Sat. But that was a log load. When I cut standing or fallen timber in the woods, I like winter the best. No leaves or underbrush and I hate cutting when it's too hot.

    Muddy logs

My Dad got a log load dropped off when they logged his neighbors property this past winter. It was late in the winter and the ground was kind of soft. The logs have some mud on them. They is no water around where they are, so washing them is out of the question. We just stop every 5 or 6...

    Stainless chimney liner?

Gonna cost you more than $150. But I have the same set up you just described, right down to the Lopi. I had a liner put in years ago, it works great.

Firewood thieves...gonna be a bad year

You can't see mine from the road and only a few other on my street burn. So, I've never had a problem. Someone I work with just lost almost 2 face. He cut all day Sunday and dumped the load in his driveway. He went to work Monday and when he came home it was gone. His neighbor said that...
