    Stihl bar oil sticker shock

Will be throwing some canola oil tomorrow cutting up some apple for a pig roast over the weekend. A friend gave me chips from the chainsaw before but never liked the slight petroleum taste. I have been making apple splinters with the splitter. Making cookies and saving the chips will give...

    Left-Handed Operator - First-Time Saw Owner

I didn't mean to confuse MMFaller39. My point is the chainsaws in Yukonsawman picture are actually right handed saws. The picture was just flipped horizontally in a photoshop type program. You can see this by looking at the writing on the bar.

    Left-Handed Operator - First-Time Saw Owner

I turned those saws back to right handed. Look closely at the two pictures. My picture is the real version of the saw. Look at the Stihl on the bar. Mine Yukonsawman

    Mulch those leaves!

Use the Toro Proline walk behind mower to throw/mulch the leaves. I have woods on two sides of my property to blow the leaves to. I back track over clean area to just blow in one direction. I do it once a week so leaves do not get out of hand. About 50% get mulched the rest make it to the woods...

    Halloween Hickory

Long tiring day. I ended up scoring three over loaded full size pickup truck loads of green shag bark hickory. One load of branches from 3" to 10" in diameter. The other two loads were the big stuff. The two tree guys decided they liked the 7900 over the Stihl 441. Now for the extra...

    Halloween Hickory

Tree hugger friend is doing a side job 3 miles from my house. He is taking down a huge hickory. He estimates 4 pickup trucks full of Bitternut Hickory. Says his dad will take one truck load and I can have the rest. His Davey Tree co-worker who is helping on the job say it might be closer to 3...

    What is that odor??

Either pin "piss" oak or Catalpa. They both smell bad. My guess is Catalpa. It is the worst smelling wood when burnt.

    Are oak pallets seasoned?

I get tons of these oak timbers from a steel warehouse near me. Real 3x3 and 4x4 7 ft in length. I build my wood racks and a very nice oak deck for my smoker. But I cut most of the 3x3 and some 4x4 into firewood. I believe they are seasoned by time. Some times I get some that are not seasoned...

    Gloves for handling firewood

Tractor Supply has leather gloves with cloth back. The leather is doubled up on the thumb and first finger. Cost about $6 if memory serves me. The have held up all summer and fall. They feel a little stiff at first. I split and throw a lot of wood towards the pile. Wears the thumb and first...

Fightin' the urge to burn... anyone else?

Light 'er up I have been burning at night for about 10 days now. The last 2 or 3 days I burned all day and night. I have at least 2 years worth of wood. Last three truck loads I gave to a needy neighbor. I have been giving away all the dead wood. Green wood I come across gets stockpiled for...
