    Think my owb boiled

Mine has boiled a couple times and it hasn't seemed to bother the pump yet. When I notice it getting hot I turn the blower on to my heat exchanger and blow some hot air into the house. Usually only takes a few minutes to get the temp back down. Any idea what the cause of the over heat was...

    Fire Trucks?

Yep first good cold snap here and I spent 2 Saturday's in a row at house fires one started with a chimney fire and ended up being the hottest fire I've ever been in. Melted the reflectors on my helmet. It was an old farm house and once it got into the walls and ceiling it was all over.

Somthing you just have to see

Now thats a bar, and here I thought my 47" made my 880 look like a real saw..... I think you win, as far as the helper handle goes I've never had the need to use one but I might be crazzy enough to hold it for a cut or 2. I mean they did it back in the day right, but then again those old...

    The "Firing it up" thread

Thanks for imbeding that, I'll figure it out again at some point. When I placed the boiler last year I had plans for the shed to be close, it ended up on an angle of 45* to the boiler because of my water and electric lines running just to the lt side of the poles (about 8' away) but the angle...

    The "Firing it up" thread

I havent fired up my OWB yet, its been down to about 59 in my basement but the contractor hasnt gotten here yet to insulate the upstairs and so I cant really see firing up to let all the heat out of the basement and into the cold upstairs. Contractor is supposed to be here in a week or 2 to get...

What was your dad/family's first saw?

My dads first saw was a worn out mac 1-72 I can still remember him fighting with that saw just to get it started. I must have been about 6 or so when he put that saw up and bought a used 028 that he still has to this day. That 028 was our big saw for about 15 years then I bought my 046...

Alright.. Fess up.. Who's NOT ready?

I'm going to be cutting it close, I have about 6 cord cut but still need to get it all split. I spent all summer workin g on the house and the last 10 days I spent getting my wood shed built, digging wood out of the snow last year really took the fun out of it. I only went through around 4...

How much fuel does your splitter use?

I've never really paid much attention to how much fuel we burn running the splitter but I'd bet its around 3-4gal per hour... but we run our splitter off the remotes on our 856 intrnational, 100hp trator drinks fuel no matter what it dose but she sure sounds good doing it (3" straight pipe will...

    Most important firewood tool...

My top tool for fire wood has to be my backhoe, I use it for..... well everything, no need for a saw buck just pick up the log off the pile with the back bucket and cut until I get to the bucket. If I cant split a roundby hand and dont want to get the splitter out a well placed tooth usually...

    The Master of the MS880

wow both of those really gave me a good laugh, I cant see how one handing an 880 could posably seem like a good idea. But then again it kind of looks like they all took a dive into the shallow end of the gene pool.

Do you ever feel guilty dropping trees, especially big healthy ones?

I dropped several very nice hard maples, beach and cherry to make room for my house, hated to see them go but I had a few of the best ones milled up and will use them in my house. I gess for me its a give and take, I enjoyed seeing those big maples on the hill for years but I'll enjoy seeing...

Red Oak that didnt make it to the OWB

I ran the floor though the planner, I still need to set it up to rip everything to the widths I want. Once thats done then I'll be ready to lay it down once the insulation is finished up. I'm sure its going to move on me a little being that I plan on using planks 18-22" wide for the foor. My...

Stupid mistake lands me a MS880

Very nice, I think you'll be pleased with it, I dont regret buying mine at all. Big and heavy yes but it sure is a blast to run in some big wood. The only problem is big cc saws are a little addictive, I'm constantly checking ebay and craigslist for 100+ cc saws. I need another like I need a...

Red Oak that didnt make it to the OWB

I missed the question on the finish, I've been debating on what I want to do with that. I'll probably use a water based urathane on the stairs and the floor but I've seen some real nice finishes with some of the oils also. More reserch is in order before I get to that point, one things for...

Red Oak that didnt make it to the OWB

The planer is a 7.5 horse single phase motor for the drive and a 1/2 horse variable speed motor for the feed. I didnt really have much choice but to buy a big planner i I wanted to keep my 24" planks. I managed to get the lumber down to 6-8% moisture content, it has been in my basement since...

Red Oak that didnt make it to the OWB

Thanks, heres a couple pics of the rest of house over the course of the last year easter sunday last year, we built the upstairs walls in the pole barn during a rain storm then carried them up to the house with the backhoe. I wish I had extend on the hoe took 3 of us to get the walls to...

Red Oak that didnt make it to the OWB

when you get ready to buy a planner check out woodmaster I bought the 725 and I couldnt be happier with it, the variable fead lets me take 1/8" off a 24" oak plank in one pass, just slow the fead down. Seems to be a very well built machine and is made right here in the US which was also a big...

Red Oak that didnt make it to the OWB

Thanks for the compliments, when I'm all done I'll have wide plank red oak flooring and oak on the ceilling from this tree. I got enough oak 18-24" wide to do thefloor in my living/dinning room so I gues tht would qualify to be called wide plank :D The Hard maple that will go on the walls that...
