    smoke in house

Some smoke will roll out the door if you open it quickly, but if the draft is good, then not much should and the draft should reestablish real quick. Do you have a real hot fire going or is it just a smoldering fire? When the fire is going, are you seeing a lot smoke out of the chimney/pipe...

    Review Oregon PowerNow Cordless Chainsaw

I have a cordless MS460 that is pretty awesome.

    My wood pile.

No, they are not worth it in my opinion. Mine took 2-3 times longer than stacking in windrows. I spent the time to make them very nice, round and level. After about 6 month, they dried and shifted enough to make the sides fall out. Made two of them, one about 1 cord of wood and the other...

    My new neighbors....GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

yeah, I hate that too. I have a ton of wood and if the neighbors would ask, I would be more than happy to share at no cost. But my hard work and money do not come free, you have to pay the price of swallowing your pride and asking nicely.

Local weater man says the Earth is in a cooling phase that will last 10 to 15 years.

I tried to not be political. It is the new catch phrase and as much as I like cutting firewood, I would be happy as heck to only run my chainsaw half as much as I do now. I like mountain biking much better than processing firewood.

Please send any extra global warming anyone has my way. I think the new catch phrase is "Climate Chaos" now. This is clever as it can cover all situations without having to change the name to match the current climate trend.

    Anti-firewood Snob

Your avatar hurts my back. I never had a bad back until I started burning wood. I absolutely love burning and processing wood, but when my back acts up, I sometimes wish I would have never laid eyes on a chainsaw.

I just don't seem to understand this...

My back would really like me to quit...I have not given in to it yet, but it may force me too soon...

    Chain sharpening cost

Just noticed you are from SE Iowa, if you are anywhere near the QCA, I would be glad to give you a quick lesson, for free or a couple of beers...either one is fine.

    Chain sharpening cost

Did not read the whole thread and don't know if anyone else said this, but be careful having someone else sharpen your chains. Some will take 50% or more of your chain off and not even do the depth gauges.

    Why can't I say no?

I have a monster maul, a maul, and a fiskars Home depot knockoff. Also have a 460 that I use on the big stuff that is stubborn. I do have access to a hydraulic splitter also, but dont use it very often. I enjoy the exercise, but was REALLY looking forward to taking a break for a year or two...

    Why can't I say no?

probably want to use rounds(maybe 8-10" on the corners, smaller on the sides) instead of firewood pieces though, give it a little more stability. I get my pallets free from a car window place. They are always new and VERY strong runners...

    Why can't I say no?

If you have good strong pallets I would just pier each pallet with six or eight pieces of 18" firewood vertically.

    Why can't I say no?

The wood inside is stacked vertically. The theory is that the hot air will rise through the vertical pieces and be sucked in through the outside horizontally stacked pieces, thus drying everything. The roof is formed to direct rainfall off the stack. This is all theory of course. I will...

    Why can't I say no?

Were not beautiful before this year. I used to stack five foot high and they just seemed to fall over all the time. Now everything gets stack 3-3.5 ft high and staked every two pallets. The end stakes get tied to the previous ones so they dont sag over. I don't ever want to restack that wood...
