The "Game of Logging" training is awsome...

Been to level 2 of the GOL series. I really like the idea behind this course. You are right about the instructors being very skilled cutters. They really push using the chainbrake constantly which I never do. Guess it's not a bad habit to get into though. Unfortunately, my class kinda reverted...

Big old saws VS Big old elm

Nice pics!!! Cut up some dead elm earlier this year myself. Was splitting it with the log splitter today. What a mess that is. Anyway, nice pics and nice older saws!!

What would you do in this situation?

For what the cap is worth, it wouldn't be worth the time or aggravation dealing with this mess. Tell him to pony up the dough or it will be relisted.

    What the Stihl dealer said

I think the weight IS a worthwhile thing to look at. Working all day with the saw, I'd definately rather have a lighter saw. The heavier the saw, the quicker fatigue sets in and thats when accidents happen. I know the difference is a pound or two, but it will become apparent after a couple hours...

    What the Stihl dealer said

I was looking at the 441 a few months ago. While doing that, I found a new 440 and went with it. If I did not find that 440, I would have gone 460 easily. For the same weight, why go down in power? The 460 is a legend and proven like the 440 where the 441 has some time to get that reputation...

    New Dolmar PS-5100S

You got a great deal on that saw. I recently ran one at a GOL class I attended. It was the instructors saw. He was really pushing the Dolmar saws. Seems like a fast little saw. Dolmar dealers are few and far between around here so I never gave them much consideration. Nice saw though.

    Trip to the stihl store....

This thread is pointless. The author got what he wanted, a #####fest. The topic is so stupid it's not worth my time to comment on it.

    660 in da Big Wood

Nice tree, Thanks for the pics. Not many trees that big around here. Looks like a blast to saw up.

    Stihl versus Homelite

The chain was about to fall off the Stihl.

Thinking I might trade in the MS310

If you can find a 440, go that route. I love mine. The 440 is light enough to use for long periods. Any more weight (441,460) is starting to get to be too much. The 440 is similar in weight to the 290/310 saws with alot more power on tap. Most likely your dealer doesn't have any 440's left...

Thinking I might trade in the MS310

The 361 is a better saw than the 310 no doubt. But, you are not gaining much of a power difference. The 441 would give you a decent gain in power. On the other hand, the 441 will be tiresome to use for small stuff or for long periods of time. You will definately need a 2 saw plan if you get the...

    My latest rant on Dolmar

I know what you are going thru. I don't need those kind of hassles. My business quickly goes elsewhere when I run into that situation for anything.

Best Stihl Chain For Dead Hardwood?

I'll have to see if I can find some of the RM and give it a shot. I love the RSC chain but it doesn't seem to last in the dead stuff.

Best Stihl Chain For Dead Hardwood?

Cut up some dead hardwood with the 440 today. Not sure what kind of trees. I was wondering what chain is best for dead/dry hardwood? The 440 has a 20" bar and stock 7 pin sprocket for now. I'm using RSC chain now and wonder if there is something better for dead trees.

    026-ms260-horsepower-weight

When I bought my 260 pro in 2002/2003, it was rated at 3.5 horse. Like you said, now they are rated at 3.2 . Does anyone know what year they changed to the more restrictive muffler?

    290 Rattle

My 260 has a clutch rattle noise when the clutch gets hot. Only at idle. Not loud enough to cause worry though. Sounds like a cars exhaust pinging after shutting a hot car off.

    stihl chaps

I think I read that peltor makes the Stihl helmet? And swedepro makes Stihls chaps? Just wondering if Stihls chaps are as safe as the Labonvilles. I wouldn't be concerned too much with the MS260 cutting thru the chaps but the 440 is another story. If they are good enough to stop the 440 then...

    stihl chaps

Looking at the new 7 layer Stihl chaps. Anyone have anything bad to say about them ? The 7 layer seems like a nice compromise between the 6 layer and 9 layer chaps. Are the labonville 6 layer better? I'm also looking at the stihl helmet. Any other suggestions?
