John Metzler, well known Pittsburgh wood artist, killed in freak accident

John Metzler was pretty well known in Pittsburgh's arborist community. He frequently salvaged wood that was cut in city parks for his work. He was in the news just a couple weeks ago for reusing a bunch of trees that were damaged in this winter's snowstorms. Apparently he was working with...

Gentlemen Saw Users or Geeks or Nerds

slowp was the inspiration to decorate my old 361 with My Little Pony stickers to keep the other guys on the crew from using it. The poor saw died of terminal embarrassment the day I stickered it up. Now I have to use more manly stickers like mudflap girls and hotrod parts suppliers and booze...

Hey pro's:how long does it take to wear out a saw?

In a residential/municipal tree service, a saw will last pretty long unless it gets dropped, smashed, or run over. It's kind of rare for a saw to last three years, but once it does it will probably last ten. It depends on how careless the guys are, and whether you have hacks doing maintenance...

No need to mix gas "runs great"

Shoot, I know a guy who did away with the oil injection in his RX-7 and mixes 10 or 15 gallons of 2-stroke at a time for it. Friggin' Wankels.

No need to mix gas "runs great"

He has since revised the item description and there is no mention of running it on straight gas. I would report it, but I never saw the original ad and I don't want to make an accusation based on hearsay.

    Arboristsite L@@K!!!

Fish, I WAS gay, but I've been cured. Now I only date "women". Just because those "women" may have to shave more often than I do and pee standing up doesn't make me any less straight. Does it?

    I saw it on Ebay/Craigslist

I just put my Jonsered 2065 up for auction. It's a nice piece, but I am too used to Stihl's outboard chain tensioner and all in one choke/kill switch. I'm embarrassed that I haven't used it, and I need to get rid of it before it starts talking to me. You AS guys know that it can take a slug...

    I saw it on Ebay/Craigslist

It's a 361. $500 isn't terrible for one with an extra bar and some chains, if it truly was barely used like he says. But I don't know where he possibly could have spent $800 on it like he claims, so it makes me suspicious of the whole deal.

    362

Personally I want one of the last 361s to put on the shelf for when my current 361 gets retired and put out to stud. Then I want a 362 in about a year and a half just to give it a shot. I really like that size saw for the wood we have around here. I run an 046 that belongs to my buddy fairly...

    Yeah, but you get paid.

    The new ms362!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AS members are not typical chainsaw consumers and are certainly not Stihl's target market. It would be foolish to expect them to design a product for our demographic. The best we can hope for is that the market-driven design criteria and our desires happen to intersect in a particular saw...

    I saw it on Ebay/Craigslist

A couple huskies in the Pittsburgh area: Doesn't say what it is, just that it has a three foot bar - $100: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/tls/1261876004.html 359 with a 20 inch bar - $75: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/grd/1262083635.html

    I saw it on Ebay/Craigslist

Someone sent me this link to a Stihl TS 510 in central Oregon. As soon as I saw 510, I thought it was an overpriced, beat up S10 chainsaw, but apparently, it is a legit concrete saw with a chainsaw bar on it. Still a little beat up, and I have no idea if it's worth the money...

How do you clean your chainsaw air filter?

    Chainsaws have air filters?

just went from 14-16inch bar on my 192?

I don't even run a 16" on a 200T. If I need something bigger than my 14" in a tree, I will either borrow a saw from my buddy who does run a 16" or bring up the 361. The saw balances better, especially one-handed, and revs better with the shorter bar. You're down a lot on power with your 192...

well i thought this was a pretty spiffy idea.

I really like to use bike ribbon on my saws. I've got Bontrager cork on both ends of my 361 that I use all the time. I caught a little flack for taping over the throttle interlock, but I like it. I did that with electrical tape before putting the cork tape over it. It usually takes a...

    crazy porting idea, don't laugh....

I'm surprised that it took someone so long to point this out. I don't know if all of the newer saws are like this, but I know that the 361 has a pattern of what I would call raised diamonds on the inside of the boots.

    was this for real?

IIRC, it was an advertisement for the ESPN exteme games a couple years ago. They had a few with different made up sports; that one was "timber catching."
