    Wood Pile Cover Material?

Go to your local lumberyard and ask for lumber wraps. They usually just throw them away after open a new skid of lumber. They’re free and seem to last a few years. Lumberyards are also a good source of pallets for storing lumber on.

Anyone ever needed a electric draft inducer?

I didn’t read all the posts, so this may have been mentioned. I was experiencing the same thing as you. Next time you build a fire open the closest window or door(exterior) to your wood burner. Mine used to be the same way, even after getting a new flue built. Opening a window while building a...

Post pictures of your woodpile/splitting area

Edit.....The pics of those stacks don't look near as bad as they do in person lol.

    Wood heat for new house

That's the one thing about double wall I do not like.......is the looks. I still prefer the look of a traditional brick and mortar flue. I may just run the flue bare now then cover it up with a more traditional flue later. I've always wanted to try and lay up my own flue. I'm not sure I'll...

    Wood heat for new house

Yeah I after pricing the double wall it's kind of a no brainer over a traditional flue. It's better and safer (I think) over a masonry flue.

    Wood heat for new house

Thank you for the good write up. I'll definitely keep that in with the mini-split. And will go with a Mitsubishi. What kind of stove would you recommend? What add on for the hot water coil?

    Wood heat for new house

I don't have those kind of tools so I'll probably just have HVAC guy do it. I'm fully of aware the possible mess and dirtiness of wood. My parents have heated with wood and coal since day one. I like the pallet jack idea. How do you hook your DHW to your stove?

    Wood heat for new house

The mini-splits are looking appealing for back up. Has anyone ever installed their own mini-split? I'm a carpenter with a well rounded background in electrical and plumbing and wondering if I could do it myself. Does anyone know of wood stove that is able to heat DHW?

    Wood heat for new house

So right now I'm leaning towards using a stove in the basement. What you guys use for a flue? Double wall pipe or a traditional masonry flue?

    Wood heat for new house

That's what I was thinking. Most wood stoves should be able to fit through a 3/0 door shouldn't they?

    Wood heat for new house

I haven't even broke ground yet, just want to get all my ducks in row. I would love to able to have a walk out basement but I don't know if that's feasible, it's a pretty flat lot. I'd prefer to stick with wood because it's free and there's plenty of it around. I thought of maybe putting a...

    Wood heat for new house

It get's a little cold here in PA lol. I wish I had natural gas available. I'll probably go the domestic water heater route while I'm building it. A water heater would still need a pump though wouldn't it? The route I was kinda thinking for now was a stove and then a water heater for back up.

    Wood heat for new house

I'm in the process of possibly building my house this coming summer. I want to use wood to heat it. House is going to be 860 t0 960 sq. ft. R-21 in the walls R-38+ in the attic. How do you suggest to heat it? Just a stove in the basement for now? If not a stove an OWB? I'd prefer to stick...

Width of heat shield behind woo stove?

If you guys (and gals) could give me some some help I would greatly appreciate it. We're putting a heat shield behind our wood burner at camp. We're going to use 1" emt conduit to space the 1/2" cement board off the wall. I've found all the clearances that I need except for one. How wide...

Need some advice on SS flue liner

I'm going to use 6" rigid single wall. I should have everything by this weekend, and install it on Saturday. I need to it's getting cold in here, haha. I can just reach the crack from inside, so I will clean it up and patch it the best I can with refractory cement. I know it will be a tight...

That's exactly what I would like to do. I would like to reline it with single wall stainless steel. Sorry I should have been more clear in my original post.

Need some advice on SS flue liner

Safety is the utmost concern right now. My neighbor lost his house due to a flue fire earlier this fall. The flue needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. I didn't really want spend upwards of $1000 to line it and get me through the winter. Don't get me wrong I will spend the money if I...

Need some advice on SS flue liner

Thank you Wisneaky for the advice. I thought of 6" but didn't know how difficult that would be slide down the flue. I agree with the tee but I'm still not sure how it goes in? It would have be bigger 6" in diameter wouldn't it? Rwoods thank you for getting back to me. I've never had a flue...
