Stihl 261 C-M Intermittent Hot Start Issue

I've started it once and then shut it off. I'm dying to take it out and run a few tanks through it.

Stihl 261 C-M Intermittent Hot Start Issue

FINAL OUTCOME: My saw had been at the dealer for over a week due to a backorder issue with the carb. So I contacted Stihl and asked if I could just exchange my saw. They talked to the dealer and he agreed to an exchange. So that's what I did..... Obviously I'm more than happy with the...

    Reset the M-tronic

Those sound like safety precautions to me (ie...in case the saw runs fast enough to turn the chain). My dealers mechanic described the procedure briefly and I thought he said something about an additional idling cycle after the 90 sec run on "choke" but before the test test cuts ??? Just curious.

Stihl 261 C-M Intermittent Hot Start Issue

OP here. No "user error" here. I run ethanol-free fuel ONLY in all my OPE. Just to be absolutely sure that fuel was not the issue I also bought 2 cans of the MotoMix. Same problem. The shutter was the first thing I checked since the saw acted like it had vapor lock from over-heating. Keep...

Stihl 261 C-M Intermittent Hot Start Issue

I took it back to the dealer today. While I was there he got on the phone with a regional tech rep from Stihl. Based on their conversation, the carburetor body is being replaced. Since everything bench tests OK, their only option was to replace the part they felt was most likely causing my...

Stihl 261 C-M Intermittent Hot Start Issue

OP here......Definitely hoped this would not turn into a brand bash, but I still wanted some input, so I posted anyways. Sorry fellow Stihl lovers :) Anyways....To reply to a few suggestions/comments above: The dealer is a very knowledgeable mechanic and has the highest Stihl certification...

Stihl 261 C-M Intermittent Hot Start Issue

So 3 weeks ago I sold most of my saws and bought a new 261 C-M. The day I bought it, I headed straight to the woods and put it to work. By the end of the day I was so frustrated and disappointed. Here's the deal: 1) First start of the day (cold) it fires up with one or two pulls. Runs great...

trouble with predator 346 cc engine

Definitely carb issue since altering the choke changes the running characteristics. I do alot of small engine work as a side-gig/hobby. Most modern small engine come from the factory running so lean I'm surprised they run at all. It's an easy fix. Remove the main jet and emulsifier tube...

    Wood Splitter Picture Thread

Old Didier - raised, converted to wedge on ram, added work tables, updated motor, built larger hydraulic tank, added filter, added detent valve control. http://www.arboristsite.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=220830&d=1327973096

    Log Spliter Welding

For my purposes I have done A LOT of projects with my old Lincoln AC-225 and Lincoln Pro-Mig 180C. These are both considered "light duty" machines by pros. Just take the advice from the posters above: bevel and run as hot as you can. Using the machines I mentioned, I've stuck may things...

Huskee/Speeco 22T won't start in the cold (even mild cold)

I have the same splitter, and have had similar issues. I'm a small-engine gearhead and I know how frustrating a cranky engine can be. The bad news is that most of your issue is related to the cold fluid in the hydraulic system. It makes it difficult to spin the engine fast enough to get it to...

    Big winch?

Just wanted to mention the Fransgard brand. I bought the V-4000 last year and love it. I did lots of research on all the brands and it came down to who had the closest dealer - Fransgard. The various brands are all expensive and all very capable. They are also simple enough designs that I...

    Didier splitters

You also said it runs rougher once the fuel level drops - 2 possible issues there. 1)Diaphram is weak or stiff (old) - I replace mine nearly every year. It serves as the "fuel pump" and it's rubber construction does not like the new ethanol-tainted gasoline we get. FYI-a new diaphram is...

    Didier splitters

Get your engine numbers (located on the starter shroud :model - type-code) and call Jack's Small Engine (located in Maryland). They can provide you with a rebuild kit - $6 + shipping. The rebuild kits are pretty much "universal" , one kit is used to service nearly all 5hp thru 3hp engines with...

    Didier splitters

Brokk, A few things about your engine: That is an "L"-head type briggs with a pulsa-jet carb. There is no float to adjust, and they are a VERY simple design. You can do a rebuild in 30 minutes and you'll have no problems - just take your time and pay attention to where things go. A rebuild...

    Honda engine trouble

That's why I recommend filters be placed AFTER the fuel pump. If they crack....it leaks and you see the leak. Also, in the event the fuel pump sends out some type of debris, the debris is caught by the filter rather than plugging the carb inlet. Glad you got it figured out. Trying to...

    Honda engine trouble

Sure sounds like a carb issue. Remove the float bowl, unscrew the jet (use a GOOD correctly-sized slotted screwdriver or else you will ruin the jet slot) and remove the emulsion tube. Clean the emulsion tube and jet throughly....then clean it again. Sounds like a classic case of ethanol-fuel...

Purchased a Uniforest 50E log winch for my Kubota L5030

Definitely sounds like a possible clutch issue. These winches are scary powerful. Last night I was using mine to fall a leaner in a different direction. I used a pulley on another tree (12" ash tree) to change my direction of pull. The leaner was way heavier than expected and the winch ended...

Purchased a Uniforest 50E log winch for my Kubota L5030

Hard to say. You have 12 more HP than I do, but I would still expect the tractor to at least bog down some under a hard pull. Try running your engine at (near) idle and pull something heavy. See if the clutch still slips. Also, try to choke your logs so that the log is "rolled" a little as...

Purchased a Uniforest 50E log winch for my Kubota L5030

I have a Fransgard V-4000 (8800lb pull) on my Kubota L3830. It will definitely move the tractor in a very hard pull (the plate digs in like crazy also). The top pulley will put more downforce on the blade, but tends to stress your top link more. The lower pulley distributes the pulling force...
